Fathers Love Your Children

And he will [himself] go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn back the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient and incredulous and unpersuadable to the wisdom of the upright [which is the knowledge and holy love of the will of God]—in order to make ready for the Lord a people [perfectly] prepared [in spirit, adjusted and disposed and placed in the right moral state]. Luke 1:17 (AMP)

(WNS) — For the first time in American history, more than half of all births to American women under 30 are occurring outside of marriage.

That’s what Child Trends, analyzing data from the National Center for Health Statistics, found out. The New York Times reported this news with an apt lead: “It used to be called illegitimacy. Now it is the new normal.”

This is more important than a trend, because trends are easy to reverse. This is an ooze, a sociological horror film that could be titled The Blob That Ate America. Ask no more why the lives of the next generation, on average, are likely to be more difficult economically (and in many other ways) than that of the baby boomers.

As Bowling Green State University researcher Susan L. Brown (and many others) have found, children born to married couples, on average, “experience better education, social, cognitive and behavioral outcomes” than others.

Many single moms try hard and are overwhelmed. The Times article ends with a vignette about one of them, Lisa Mercado, who is taking a nursing course and working an all-night job at a gas station, so she rarely sees her 6-year-old: “I want to do things with her, but I end up falling asleep.”

The sins of the fathers affect their children. The Times, explaining why some women don’t get married, noted, “Some unwed mothers cite the failures of their parents’ marriages as reasons to wait. Brittany Kidd was 13 when her father ran off with one of her mother’s friends, plunging her mother into depression and leaving the family financially unstable.

“Our family life was pretty perfect: a nice house, two cars, a dog and a cat,” she told the Times. “That stability just got knocked out like a window; it shattered.” Kidd, 21, added that she wouldn’t think of marrying her son’s father, who she said she loves: “I don’t want to wind up like my mom.”

Marvin Olasky is editor-in-chief of WORLD Magazine.

The Lord warns us in Malachi 4:6: And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” (NKJV).  Many problems are associated with a broken home as we heard Brittany Kidd say ‘stability just got knocked out like a window, it shattered.’ The families fanancial security, and emotional stability where shattered in an instant leaving the children to bear the heaviest burden. What did Brittany learn from her experience? She swore she would not end up like her mother and yet she is living as a single mom the exact state her mother was left in.

Father’s and mothers your actions have consequences. As parents you are entrusted by God with the responsibilities that come with bearing children. I do not think it is any stretch to say the increase in out-of wedlock births and abortions are connected. As parents become more and more irresponsible with their own behavior, their children will suffer because of it. Our failure to live as Godly parents leaves behind a wake of ruined lives and shame.

Making abortions mainstream and removing the stigma of single-parent households does not make for a sound society. despite the ever-increasing social safety net spread beneath the single-parent household, reports show children of married parents do better, on average, in all societal issues, educationally, financially, emotionally, and socially. Granted there are exceptions but the chances are far better for children raised in a stable home with two loving God honoring parents.

The gospel writer Luke tells us that John the baptist would go before the coming of Christ to prepare a people who will be placed in the right moral state. The failure of the family is a crack in the foundation of our society which over time will cause it to crumble. There will come a point of no return and our society will be left in tatters much like Brittany’s family. As a society, and as parents, we need to examine our motives and attitudes towards children and learn to make Godly choices. Failure to do right by our children will in the end bring about our own destruction as a nation.

Just another view from the nest.

But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)

There is No Doubt About It: Wisconsin Teachers not Doing it for the Kids

Amplify’d from netrightdaily.com
“When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.”—Albert Shanker, past president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

Looks like those teachers protesting in Wisconsin have taken Shanker’s quote to heart. Teachers in Madison, Wis., are calling in “sick” to work because they are upset over a proposed bill, which would put an end to collective bargaining and increase employee contributions to health care and pension funds.

Meanwhile the school children are left without a teacher.

Educating Our Children

“Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — King Solomon, Proverbs 22:6

consequences_of_failureOne group of people apparently knows this truth better than another. With the advent of public education we now have a system in place to train children to believe whatever it is the public school system wishes for them to learn. With a school system under the control of godless men and women is it any wonder that we have raised several generations who have forgotten from wench we have come? Is it any wonder that these same children grow into adults who repeat back the pabulum they were fed as children?

Is it any wonder that the government controlled school system teaches that it is the government which occupies the highest seat of honor in the country and not the individual for which our constitution was drawn up to protect. Is it any wonder that today’s young people view socialism positively and yet our founding father’s looked askance at the very idea of a strong centralized government interfering in the lives of the citizens. Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it is wise instruction. Do you suppose it is time we get back to teaching our children what made America great? Do you think it is time to get back to teaching our children about the richness of our Christian heritage? Do you suppose it is time to teach our children about what freedom really means and how to maintain a free society? Do you suppose it is time to teach our children about the failures of our federal government and remind them of what our Constitution actually taught? Do you think that perhaps it is time to do away with government-run education?

This week is National School Choice Week, School Choice advocates will gather all across the nation to shine a spotlight on effective education options for every child. Rather than accepting the status quo, and putting up with failed schools, advocates for school choice stand up to demand their children be given a choice in their education. Parents want alternatives to the failed government-run school system. National School Choice Week, a collaborative effort by more than 150 organizations, will raise public awareness about any and all forms of educational choice, including public charter schools, magnet schools, virtual education, homeschooling, tax credit scholarships, and opportunity scholarships.

Americans have talked about the need to fix our public schools for decades. There have been movies, documentaries, books, newspaper stories, panel discussions, academic studies, and presidential speeches all pointing to the problem within Americas public school system. And yet here we are still talking.

Our leaders promise reform, but each spring, too many kids graduate high school full of hope and dreams, only to quickly find out they don’t have the skills necessary to compete in a global economy. Our public schools have failed them. That must change.

During the week of January 23 29, 2011, concerned citizens from all across the country are joining together to promote school choice as the best way to reform our nations failing public education system.

The message of National School Choice Week is very simple: let parents decide which kind of school works best for their child. It might be a charter school (which is just another type of public school), a cyberschool, a private school, a religious school, or a traditional public school. Whichever option they choose, parents should have the right to decide which school will best help their child to learn and grow.

Allowing children to stay trapped in failing schools is immoral. Critics charge that school choice advocates secretly want to do away with public education. That’s simply not true. School choice advocates want all children to receive the best education possible. Instead of questioning our motives, teacher unions and their political surrogates should join the effort to do what is best for each child.

God advocated for parents to teach their children especially when it came to teaching them about the ways of God. He desired that every child be learned in the way of God so that when they grew older they would remember all the wonderful things that God had done for their parents. Therefore allowing parents to have the final say in their child’s education is supported by scripture.

As a nation we have failed to instill in our children all the blessings bestowed upon this great nation and as a result we have seen our children grow up to forsake the way of the righteous and run off after worldly gain. It is sad really to see how quickly our society has crumbled because of our neglect for the ways of the Lord. Parents, grandparents, I urge you to once again take up the torch of truth and light the pathways of knowledge for your children and grandchildren, shine the light of truth into the darkness of deceit and declare with certainty and authority the right paths to take. Shine your light of truth so that those who are seeking truth can see it and be led into the path of truth.

There is a great deal of teaching going on in our public schools that is having a harmful effect on our children and thusly upon our nation. It is time we get back to the basics and teach once again about the goodness of God, and teach our children to honor the Lord in all things. Now there is a civics lesson that needs to be taught.

Kids in the Kingdom

“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Luke 18:16-17 (ESV)

00005543-360901CBS is the home for the reality show Kid Nation, a social experiment in which 40 children from 7 to 14 are dropped off in a deserted town to build it and run it themselves without adult supervision. I have been amazed at how well the children have been managing and dealing with their life as they make it.

On one episode the children had to deal with the social concern of religion. Prior weeks the town had to deal with curfews and government. They divided the town into 4 districts. Each has an elected leader and representative on town council.

They compete for social standing in the community by winning challenges. The first team to finish a challenge is the upper class, second place are the merchant class, third kitchen staff, and fourth laborers. Every three days there is a new challenge to see who will be serving in each class, and who is going to do the assigned chores.

Every third day there is a community meeting. One person from the community is picked to win a gold star worth $20,000. Truly, a prize worth its weight in gold. The council must decide who is to receive this reward for their hard work and leadership.

The young people governing this group to date has been refreshing, they have shown moments of greatness and, of course, there were moments when they are kids. Many of them would make any mother proud. Some of them perhaps bring a bit of embarrassment to their family but for the most part I have been moved with the performance of these fine young people.
