Belarus Theologian Takes PCUSA to Task On Gay Issues

A hearty AMEN to Reverend Siarhei Hardum of Belarus for stating the obvious. The issue of homosexuality is clearly covered in Scriptures and there really should be no need to be debating this issue. The Christian church has long stated that Homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord. If it is an abomination to the Lord wouldn’t it stand to reason then that those who promote this type of activity are also an abomination to the Lord? But if we want to just look at this from a morality issue, any sexual immorality is condemned by the bible not condoned.

I agree with the good Reverend from Belarus when he states this is a form of paganism.

If you are involved in a homosexual lifestyle there is hope for you in Jesus Christ but you must repent of your sexual immorality in order to receive his forgiveness. Like any other sin there is forgiveness after repentance.

The Reverend Siarhei Hardun of Belarus said that vote and efforts to approve same-gender “marriage” looked to him like an attempt to “invent a new religion — a sort of modern paganism.”

“Christian morality is as old as Christianity itself. It doesn’t need to be invented now,” he said of attempts to create what he described as a “new morality.”

Hardun added, “When people say that they are led and guided by the Holy Spirit to do it, I wonder if it is the same Holy Spirit that inspired the Bible.”

Are Conservatives Really Conservative?

In this recent Gallop poll 40% of those surveyed called themselves conservative with 56% of the respondents calling themselves either liberal or moderates. I have long contended that moderates are simply liberals refusing to acknowledge their true identities. Wearing the label ’moderate’ does not bring with it the same baggage as those who wear the label of ’liberal’.

So then if moderates are only closet liberals it is easy to understand why our country is leaning so far left. 56% of the population are liberal or liberal leaning. It is possible that some of the moderates would lean toward conservatism but personally I do not think this is proven in another study I cite below.

Did you notice anything strange about this table? If according to the above Gallop Poll 40% of the population is conservative why are liberal spending programs not favored by 40% of the population for limited spending? It seems strange the socialistic programs of Social Security (notice the word SOCIAL is in the title) and Medicare are not even considered by “conservatives” for spending cuts.

The only program that receives the majority of votes for spending cuts is in foreign aid. Basically then if this study proves to be correct 71% of the American people surveyed prefer socialism at home and not abroad. Considering foreign aid only amounts to 1% of total government spending I am afraid Socialism is here to stay in America.

The majority of people in this country-including a large chunk of those identified as conservative remain closet socialists on social security and medicare, and really for almost every category of public spending. Those who responded to the Gallop poll that they are conservative have some real explaining to do. How can you call yourself a conservative and vote for continued Socialism in America? The direction America is going is the opposite of what the founders of this great nation fought and died for. Listen to the words of Thomas Jefferson as penned in the Declaration of Independence, the list of grievances the colonies had with King George. Where it says he replace it with Obama and then ask yourself if you still consider yourself a conservative.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people (circumventing representation by formulating policies and writing laws behind closed doors excluding any republican legislator from the process, along with Pelosi suspending public debate on legislation and deeming a non-existant budget as passed)

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands. (actually in this case it would be the reverse, not enforcing naturalization laws and forbidding states to do so)

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. (too many to list but let us start with IRS, EPA, NEA, and the list of government bureaus grows rapidly year after year)

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation: (subjecting us to the Law of the UN)

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments: (negating bankruptcy laws in the Chrysler and GM bailouts, negating mortgage contracts in the home foreclosure laws being passed and suing a sovereign state)

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever. (passing health care despite overwhelming opposition to it thus ignoring the voice of the people, the appointment of czars to enact policy and regulations effecting the nation)

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us,… (after all he was a community organizer)

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people. (and yet he is, as the tea-party protest grew louder the slurs and ridicule grew stronger)

Today we accept as normal the constant harassment of the federal government, and confiscation of personal property far beyond anything King George could have enacted or imagined. Our acceptance of it is our Declaration of Dependence-dependence on government invasion and coercion. What our founders fought to free themselves from, the majority today fights to keep.

The dark force behind socialism is the public’s demand for and dependence upon government handouts. They not only demand them they stand in the way of anyone who tries to cut them. The only way to reverse this trend is for those who are truly conservative to stand up and say no more government handouts of any kind. We need to ween ourselves off the teats of the federal government. We have to stop looking for the tyrannical state to come to our aid. We have to once again call upon the providence of God and as a free people we need to learn to live like it, or we will be forever enslaved to the tyrannical rule of the government, which will grow exceedingly large under each successive reincarnation until the entire weight of it comes crashing down upon our heads.

Sadly, millions of Americans willingly accept the belief that government is the engine of change for all that is good in society (they voted for hope and change). If history is any indicator, that belief is ill-placed. How many past political regimes that promised salvation wrought tyranny and oppression instead? The absence of any exceptions proves the rule. The problem with socialism is those who promote it are the only ones who benefit from it (those who wrest their power from the people by making dependents of those same people.) We have no one to blame but ourselves as these studies show. Although 40% say they are conservative, there is no proof of those same 40% holding any real conservative convictions when it comes to socialism. They, along with the rest of America, still wish to receive government handouts.

Decent people will live in the land. People of integrity will remain in it. But wicked people will be cut off from the land and treacherous people will be torn from it. Prov 2:21-22 (GW)

Several centuries before Christ, Alexander the Great came out of Macedonia and Greece to conquer the Mediterranean world. On one of his campaigns, Alexander received a message that one of his soldiers had been continually, and seriously, misbehaving and thereby shedding a bad light on the character of all the Greek troops. And what made it even worse was that this soldier’s name was also Alexander. When the commander learned this, he sent word that he wanted to talk to the errant soldier in person. When the young man arrived at the tent of Alexander the Great, the commander asked him, “What is your name?” The reply came back, “Alexander, sir.” The commander looked him straight in the eye and said forcefully, “Soldier, either change your behavior or change your name.” This story has a lesson for each of us. When we call ourselves Americans, we are identifying with this nation and the principles upon which it was established. When we swear allegiance to the flag we stand with others to defend the Constitution of these United States of America. We are being . identified with the United States of America. Is your behavior compatible with that name and with the symbol that shows that you are an American?

Great Seal of the State of Arizona
Image via Wikipedia

Arizona is soon to enact what some say is an ill-conceived immigration enforcement act. This statute does not affect other states, nor is it enforceable across state lines. The law strictly forbids police officers to ask an individual for identification unless the officers encounter a suspect while in the course of enforcing another infraction of the state statutes. For an example; a person walking down the street of downtown Phoenix should not, and can not, be detained by police and questioned to produce identification unless that person has committed a crime. Seems to me the bill is reasonably restrictive.

Compare that to the law that requires identification when purchasing cough medicine at the local Target. Which seems to be more reasonable to you? To be asked to produce identification after being stopped for breaking a law or being asked to produce ID to buy over-the-counter cough medicine? If you answered the cough medicine then you must be a liberal democrat set on demonizing legitimate behavior in order to legitimize illegitimate behavior.

Another example would be the mandatory, random drug tests administered to commercial drivers. Isn’t this an invasion of one’s privacy also? Is there proof or suspicion that the person being tested is using an illegal substance? If there is no reasonable suspicion that they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol then why are they being required to submit to a random test? Shouldn’t people who show signs of the possibility of being under the influence have to take a random drug test? Why should someone who has never used drugs or alcohol have to be subjected to this form of interrogation? Why aren’t the picket sign carrying activists protesting this injustice? Or are only those who actually commit a crime entitled to political action?

Why must law-abiding citizens be treated like suspects when there is NO Reasonable suspicion that these citizens are doing anything illegal? Well that is the rationale being used to justify opposition to the Arizona immigration enforcement bill.

Constantly we hear the din of political activists demonizing the Arizona bill for profiling illegal aliens and yet everyday many law-abiding, natural-born, citizens are asked to produce their identification. If it is reasonable that I should have to show my photo ID to the cashier at Target to purchase over-the-counter cough medicine, then it is just as reasonable for a suspected immigrate to be asked to present ID to a police officer. I wonder what illegal aliens produce when they buy cough medicine at their local Target?

Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land

“Proclaim Liberty throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof”

The Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Image via Wikipedia

This inscription can be found engraved upon the Liberty Bell housed in Independence Square, Philadelphia, Pa. This bell formerly known as the “Province Bell” rang out on July 8th 1776 as the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence took place. This inscription was taken from Leviticus 25:10 proclaiming the year of jubilee for Israel.

Later in the book of Isaiah we read these words: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV)

The liberty bell toiled good news that liberty was being proclaimed from Philadelphia, and Isaiah was prophesying of a time that was yet to come when liberty would again be proclaimed in Israel. That time came with the arrival of Christ. Luke chapter 4 verses 16-21 recounts the story of Jesus standing in the temple and reading from the 61st chapter of the book of Isaiah and then proclaiming on that day the scripture was fulfilled. What better time to proclaim liberty throughout all the land then on independence day? The Declaration of Independence, signed in 1776 by men willing to give their lives for this great nation, established a national freedom to all citizens of these United States of America.

Yet there is another declaration of liberty that was declared by Christ, signed with his blood, and enacted by his execution, that bought our spiritual freedom. Freedom comes with a heavy price. The signers of the “Declaration faced possible charges of treason against the British crown. But sign they did. Christ signed our spiritual declaration of independence with his own blood.

It was for freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Gal 5:1 (RSV)

These words from Galatians ring as clear as the Liberty bell did in 1776 when liberty was proclaimed throughout the colonies. Today marked the 234th birthday of our nation and once again men need to stand up and proclaim liberty throughout the land. The tyrannical bonds of King George III needed to be severed in 1776, and today I am afraid we are seeing another tyrannical government arising to enslave the people of these great United States. Let us first remember that our freedom comes from the Lord, and by remembering the heights from which we have fallen perhaps we can find our way back to the arms of a forgiving savior.

Proclaim liberty to the captives. Proclaim a year of jubilee. Let us pray our debts to one another are forgiven as we forgive those who are indebted to us. This after all is what Christ came to do. He came to forgive our sin debt. The Levitical law proclaimed all debts were to be forgiven once every 50 years in the year of jubilee. We are long overdue for a year of jubilee don’t you think? So let us once again with one accord proclaim liberty throughout the land.

“For where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.” 2 Cor. 3:17

7 Fascinating Facts About Founding Father Benjamin Franklin

I found this article very interesting and thought others would enjoy it as well. So here it is reprinted in part for my fellow travelers across the sky.

Benjamin Franklin
Image via Wikipedia

True, Founding Father Benjamin Franklin is on our $100 bill, but contrary to what many people believe, he was never president of the United States. He was far too busy to take on a job like that.As a scientist, writer, printer, philosopher, musician, politician, and inventor Franklin did more in a day than many people do in a lifetime. Here are some of our favorite Franklin facts.

He was a high school dropout. Franklin proved that you don’t need a fancy degree to succeed in life—due to family financial problems, he never graduated from high school.

He created America’s first library. In 1732, Franklin convinced a group of fellow intellectuals to create a library of their personal books, then added a subscription service, in which funds would be used to purchase new books for all to read. The Library Company of Philadelphia, as it was called, still exists today and has over 500,000 rare books.

He invented the first bifocal glasses, odometer, urinary catheter, lightning rod, and many other devices, yet never filed for a patent. Though any one of Franklin’s inventions could have made him a tremendous fortune, he wasn’t greedy about them. He believed that his work was for the common good, and “as we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously,” he wrote in his autobiography. We bet he’d be a big fan of Creative Commons.

He Invented the Franklin Stove. In colonial America, most people warmed their homes by building a fire in a fireplace even though it was kind of dangerous and used a lot of wood. Ben figured that there had to be a better way. His invention of an iron furnace stove allowed people to warm their homes less dangerously and with less wood. Interestingly enough, Ben also established the first fire company and the first fire insurance company in order to help people live more safely.

He created a phonetic alphabet. Franklin’s alphabet got rid of six letters he thought were redundant, and added six new letters for other sounds. As you can probably tell, it never caught on.

As a young man, Franklin created a list of 13 virtues, and worked on obeying them throughout his life. Here is the list; you may find it helpful too:

Temperance: Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation
Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversations
Order: Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time
Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve
Frugality: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; that is, waste nothing
Industry: Lose not time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions
Sincerity: Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly; speak accordingly Justice: Wrong none by doing injuries or omitting the benefits that are your duty Moderation: Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think you deserve
Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes or habitation
Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles or accidents common or unavoidable Chastity: Rarely use venery but for health or offspring; never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another’s peace or reputation
Humility: Imitate Jesus and Socrates

20,000 people attended his funeral. Franklin truly was a rock star for his time—and he remains so today.
