Stop Intruders with Canned Goods

LOON ALERT: They shoot bullets we throw cans: According to an AP report an Alabama middle school wants to stockpile cans of corn and peas in classrooms for students to toss at possible intruders as a LAST resort defense.

This is almost as useful as hiding under your desk during an air raid. I wonder if the students could just gather up sticks and stones to toss at the uninvited armed assassin?

arise, rebuild [a chorus and mission for 2015]

As January buds and ripens, I have a lot of friends that pick words to name the new 365 days ahead of us. This idea has always intrigued me. Being a word-lover myself, I get a little crazy about na…

I have been following Kaysie’s blog for quite a while, it is one of my favorites. Kaysie’s words have ministered to me a number of times. As we start a new year this article seems to be very timely and I felt that it would really bless all who takes the time to read it.

A new year, a blank slate, all your yesterdays are in the past. Perhaps this year is the year for you to arise and rebuild.

"We are all surrounded by ashes. People hurting. Families broken. Marriages misplaced and misunderstood. Vision fumbled. Sin scarring. Blindness setting in. All the rumble around us speaks words of hopelessness."

"But the God of resurrection says, “This is not the end,” and we hold our breath."

“Get up. It’s time to rebuild.”

Well said Kaysie.

Why Free Community College Is Anything But Free

This will drive up community college costs–at taxpayers’ expense.

Source: dailysignal.com

The old adage is this: If you want more of something subsidize it, if you want less of it you tax it. Taxpayers are already paying for higher education in the form of subsidized Pell Grants, and k-12 education. All these so-called free education is surely costing the taxpayers a great deal of money.

Since the influx of government (free money) floods into these institutes of higher learning the cost of receiving a degree from these subsidized institutions has risen at more than twice the inflation rate making college even more unaffordable to the average  student. The only thing going up in higher education is the cost of same.

There are many reasons why this is a bad idea but again an old adage comes to mind, easy come, easy go. And that which you get cheaply you esteem just a cheaply. In other words when it does not cost you anything you do not value the product or service as dearly as you would if you actually had to pay for it.

We already have a "free education" system in America, the K-12 system which is presently producing graduates who need remedial studies before they can even start a college degree program. So then by extending the free education another 2 years will only degrade the already poor education our kids are getting in public schools.

If we really want to produce work ready students why not work to improve the failing K-12 education system and actually teach our children something worthwhile. I think if we spent more time teaching our children valuable life skills and beef up the vocational education system we would have work-ready students upon graduation.

Besides not everyone should attend college because college isn’t for everyone. In fact according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, only 20 percent of community college students transfer to four-year schools, and only 72 percent of those will have finished or remained enrolled four years later.

So, from what we can tell, we are looking at completion for just around 34 percent of community college students. This does not seem to me to be a worthwhile investment since most will not benefit from the "free education".

Like all the other failed social programs instituted by the federal government this too is destined to be a huge failure and end up benefiting a very small minority while costing the majority huge sums of money.

When is the average American citizen ever going to gain higher learning if they can not learn the simple truth of failed socialized programs?

Science: Kids Are Sinners after All?

Back in 2006, a study purported to show that eighteen-month-olds were naturally altruistic. Allegedly these toddlers were willing to help others without being asked or told to do so.

But it turns out that the results are doubtful.

Source: politicaloutcast.com

"Of course, “sinner” in the Bible can sometimes refer to a full unbeliever or apostate from the truth. In that sense, children are not in the category. But if it refers merely to an innate sinfulness—a propensity to sin as an expression of a sinful nature, then children are certainly sinners who need Jesus just like older sinners do."

New research out of Stanford and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests that these kids were actually primed by the playful researchers, if subtly, to display generosity—which means that altruistic behavior may be dictated by our experiences, however brief, instead of mere instinct, reports Stanford News. “People often call something ‘innate’ because they don’t understand the kinds of subtle experiences that can make something, like altruism, flourish,” says the lead author, admitting that “the findings will stir up some controversy, but in a good way.”

To investigate the effect of the original study’s priming, researchers mimicked it with a group of 34 toddlers, rolling a ball back and forth with the child while chatting, then knocking over an object to see if the child would pick it up. They split the group in two; in the second group, the adult and child played with their own ball independently while talking. Turns out the kids who played with the adult were three times as likely to help out and pick up the dropped object. “Kids are always on the lookout for social cues, and this is a very prominent one,” says another researcher. “Does the person’s play indicate that they’ll care for me? These actions communicate a mutuality, and the child responds in kind.”

Even though the human race is sinful, it still follows certain creation patterns you could call these God;s immutable laws. The young still depend on, instinctively trust, and learn from the old. Children learn from their parents. This is why it is important for parents to train up their children in the way they should go so when they are older they will not depart from the way they were raised (Proverbs 22:6). Of course there are exceptions to everything but for the most part children mimic what they see and hear around them.

The bible teaches us that everyone has sinned and come short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23) everyone is by nature a sinner, for we all are born with an innate sin nature. Children can be taught at a very young age to believe in God and follow His leading if parents would only pattern that behavior for their children to learn.

Harvard Professors Get Schooled on Obamacare

While Harvard professors oppose changes that will raise their health care costs, the university says the increases are in part a result of the Affordable Care Act, which many Harvard experts championed.

Source: www.nytimes.com

This story is illustrative of how most liberals view public policy. Liberals do not want to live in the same world that their loony liberal ideas generate. Liberals wish to be exempted from all the burdens they place upon others.

"For years, Harvard’s experts on health economics and policy have advised presidents and Congress on how to provide health benefits to the nation at a reasonable cost. But those remedies will now be applied to the Harvard faculty, and the professors are in an uproar."

"Members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the heart of the 378-year-old university, voted overwhelmingly in November to oppose changes that would require them and thousands of other Harvard employees to pay more for health care. The university says the increases are in part a result of the Obama administration’s Affordable Care Act, which many Harvard professors championed."

The entirety of the nation is faced with this same dilemma that these wizards of smart prescribed, but unlike them most American citizens can not offload their costs to someone else.

"In Harvard’s health care enrollment guide for 2015, the university said it “must respond to the national trend of rising health care costs, including some driven by health care reform,” in the form of the Affordable Care Act. The guide said that Harvard faced “added costs” because of provisions in the health care law that extend coverage for children up to age 26, offer free preventive services like mammograms and colonoscopies and, starting in 2018, add a tax on high-cost insurance, known as the Cadillac tax."

All these provisions in the NotSoAffordable Care act were supported by Harvard, in fact Harvard has hired the architect of the ACA Dr, Garber.

Some of the Professors were really vocal about their opposition to ObamaNoCare.

Richard F. Thomas, a Harvard professor of classics and one of the world’s leading authorities on Virgil, called the changes “deplorable, deeply regressive, a sign of the corporatization of the university.”

Mary D. Lewis, a professor who specializes in the history of modern France and has led opposition to the benefit changes, said they were tantamount to a pay cut. “Moreover,” she said, “this pay cut will be timed to come at precisely the moment when you are sick, stressed or facing the challenges of being a new parent.”

But Jerry R. Green, a professor of economics and a former provost who has been on the Harvard faculty for more than four decades, said the new out-of-pocket costs could lead people to defer medical care or diagnostic tests, causing more serious illnesses and costly complications in the future.

Exactly, that is how the affordable care act saves money by putting the expense on the people who can not afford to pay for the care and therefore do without care thus lowering the cost of providing care since no care is being provided although the patient is paying quite handsomely for so-called affordable health care.

“It’s equivalent to taxing the sick,” Professor Green said. “I don’t think there’s any government in the world that would tax the sick.”

On the contrary Professor, socialist health care does exactly that. Government run health care may pay the bill but the patient hardly gets any care. There is a great deal of money exchanging hands but the sick get sicker and most die awaiting care. Socialized medicine is nothing more than population control through the withholding of medical care.

“It seems that Harvard is trying to save money by shifting costs to sick people,” said Mary C. Waters, a professor of sociology. “I don’t understand why a university with Harvard’s incredible resources would do this. What is the crisis?”

Your President, a Harvard alum, says there was a crisis in healthcare and he had to fix it with his Affordable Care Act Ms Waters. You see regular American citizens, just like you Ms Waters, wanted to keep their plans as well. They too did not see any need to totally destroy the private healthcare system in order to usher in Government controlled healthcare. Like you Ms Waters average American citizens were not crying out for healthcare reform, it was your alum President Obama who cried foul. He was the one who forced this monstrosity upon the rest of us with the support of your Alma Mater.

Welcome to our world Ms Waters.

And  that’s the way I see it!  What say you?
