Living and Dying by the Sword of Jihad

"Matthew 26:47-53 (NIV)
47  While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.
48  Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him."
49  Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed him.
50  Jesus replied, "Friend, do what you came for." Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.
51  With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
52  "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
53  Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?"

Some argue that it was Peter who drew the sword and sliced off a piece of the arresting officers ear. The scriptures do not give the name of the person but it was someone who was with Jesus at the time. They had come to arrest the Prophet Jesus. Those who were with Jesus wanted to defend his honor and slay those who were bringing false accusations against their anointed leader. Jesus rebukes them saying that if you draw the sword even in the defense of me you shall surely die by the sword. Those on whom you draw the sword are not going to take too kindly to having body parts lopped off even if it is in the name of religion.

Jesus was a big boy he could take care of himself in fact that is exactly what he said. Hey boys you do not have to defend my honor if I need them I can call for thousands of angels to smite these blasphemers if I want to. The prophet of God did not need for mortals to take up arms to defend his honor. Any true prophet of God would not need the assistance of mere mortals for he is God.

Certain followers of the Prophet were put off when they went into a town in Samaria to see if anyone would be willing to host the prophet when he came to town. Jesus sent messengers on ahead to make preparations for his return to Jerusalem. There were some along the way who did not take too kindly to the prophet and preferred to not have him stay among them. They refused to entertain the prophet or his followers. They were not HOSPITABLE.

Luke 9:51-56 (NKJV)
51  Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem,
52  and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him.
53  But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem.
54  And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?"
55  But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.
56  For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them." And they went to another village.

This was not the only time the disciples wanted to DEFEND Jesus’ honor. There was another instance where a different sect of their religion was out teaching about the prophet but since they did not hold to the same dictates of the original sect the original members wanted to call down fire from heaven to destroy these blasphemers. But again Jesus rebuked them because they were not acting on HIS BEHALF but on the behalf of the devil. We read that here:

Numbers 11:26-29 (HCSB)
26  Two men had remained in the camp, one named Eldad and the other Medad; the Spirit rested on them—they were among those listed, but had not gone out to the tent—and they prophesied in the camp.
27  A young man ran and reported to Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”
28  Joshua son of Nun, assistant to Moses since his youth, responded, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”
29  But Moses asked him, “Are you jealous on my account? If only all the LORD’s people were prophets and the LORD would place His Spirit on them!”

Luke 9:49-50 (GW)
49   John replied, “Master, we saw someone forcing demons out of a person by using the power and authority of your name. We tried to stop him because he was not one of us.”
50  Jesus said to him, “Don’t stop him! Whoever isn’t against you is for you.”

Today we read almost daily headlines of yet another murder in the name of Mohammad the prophet of Allah. These radical Islamist are out to defend the honor of their prophet no matter what, even to the point of taking up the sword. They do not take lightly what they consider blasphemy against their prophet. Cartoons, commentary, news reporters, Christians, Jews and even fellow Muslims, anyone who does not espouse the same ideology as the wielders of the sword will meet their demise. These followers of Mohammed believe it is their religious duty to kill all infidels and blasphemers.

What a contrast to the teachings of the prophet of the one true God, Jesus. Jesus taught that those who live by the sword will surely die by that same sword. Violence will beget violence until all end up destroying each other in the name of their religion. Jesus taught us a better is way to forgive our enemies and do good to those who persecute us so as not to blaspheme his name.

Others would do well to learn this lesson.

What Color is that Dress?

A recent cellphone snapshot of a dress went viral in the last week of February, going crazy on social media, and even being picked up by huge global news outlets like the BBC and The New York Times.

The controversy that drew in celebrities and senators, “melting the internet” was simple at first—was “the dress” blue and black, or white and gold? A simple question, but one that quickly divided the globe. (White and gold won in the polls, but the dress in question is blue and black.) Even scientists couldn’t agree on the phenomenon of vision that caused such stark visual differences. The consensus now, though is that how we perceive the color of the dress is much more related to how our minds process the “meaning” of the surrounding light—the calculations that our brains make to judge the effect that light has on color can create an optical illusion, in this case, fooling the tens of millions of people who saw the blue and black dress as white and gold.

Our viewpoints are shaped by our surroundings as well. There are opposing thoughts in our society as well. Some see things one way (black and blue) while others see things differently (white and gold). In the marketplace of ideas some issues not important when it comes to matters of life and death like the color of a dress; however there are issues that hold eternal consequences and as such it is important that you view the issue from the perspective of what is true and right.

Calling a black and blue dress white and gold does not matter unless you actually know what color the dress is and then go around telling everyone the opposite is true. Efforts to deceive others is as old as time itself, for since the foundations of the world were laid the battle for the hearts and minds of civilization has waged, with the forces of right competing with the forces of wrong. Those who see through the lens of a Christian world view are competing with those who view the world through a secular lens, and as such these two camps will often oppose each other. As Christians we are advised to walk in truth, and to speak truth in love. We are to find out what color the dress really is and then tell others the truth. We should not enter the arena of speculation nor postulate unproven theories, but rather stick to what is true and right.

So what color is the dress? Who cares? What is true and right? Now that is what really matters. Are you following those who are hell-bent on deceiving you and leading you down the path of lies and deception, or are you ever vigilant in your search for truth?

Jesus said that He was the right way, the truth and nothing but truth, and he was the light, the true light that shows exactly what color your heart is. Many saw the dress as white and gold but were later proven wrong when the dress was revealed as being actually blue and black. Just because the crowd happens to see things one way does not mean it is the right way.

Stealing from our children

2 Corinthians 12:14 (GW)

14 I’m ready to visit you for a third time, and I won’t bother you for help. I don’t want your possessions. Instead, I want you. Children shouldn’t have to provide for their parents, but parents should provide for their children.

Remember Occupy Wall Street, when thousands across the country took to the streets, sleeping in tents to protest the ultra-rich 1 percent? The occupiers’ frustration was real, but their ire was misdirected. They should have launched an Occupy the AARP movement instead.

Sometimes we need a strong, hard slap in the face by truth to awaken us from our stupor. This topic is never an easy one to discuss but address it we must. Entitlement programs have bankrupted this country and statistically speaking it is no longer fiscally possible to support these programs and they are coming to an end, unless something is done to change the trajectory.

Politicians from both sides of the aisles are not willing to debate this issue, and to be honest those on the receiving end of these entitlement programs are not willing to give them up or even entertain any real changes. This is an issue that is taboo and like religion and politics makes enemies of those on opposing sides.

Address them we must because like all other wealth transfer programs the inerrant problem they all have in common is that they rely on other people’s money for support. As the economy grows worse for those who actually are stuck footing the bill it does not take a rocket scientist to understand that as the costs to keep up these programs continues to grow and the income of those who pay for them continues to decline we are on a collision course with disaster.

Big Bang Blunder: Scientists Retract Alleged Proof of Universe’s Beginnings

A team of astronomers who jubilantly announced last year that they had found proof of the Big Bang have now retracted their statements, admitting that their evidence was faulty. In March of last year, astronomers using the BICEP2 telescope at the South Pole announced the discovery of “primordial gravitational waves” from the universe’s beginning.

Live Long And Prosper

The “Trekkies” among us are mourning the death of actor Leonard Nimoy, whose cool and logical “Spock” is an iconic television hero. The alien character was known for his loyalty, self-sacrifice (when it computed, at least), and quiet curiosity, providing a counterpoint for the rash, slightly narcissistic Captain Kirk. The character’s popularity among fans is colossal—even today. “Spock” is a more recognizable name to many than “Leonard Nimoy.”

Nimoy’s craft of method acting meant that in many ways, he lived as Spock. The New York Times quotes Nimoy, saying “To this day, I sense Vulcan speech patterns, Vulcan social attitudes and even Vulcan patterns of logic and emotional suppression in my behavior,” Mr. Nimoy wrote years after the original series ended. But that wasn’t such a bad thing, he discovered. “Given the choice,” he wrote, “if I had to be someone else, I would be Spock.”

Nimoy became Spock through a long process that left a mark. Pretending to be someone else made a lasting impression upon Leonard Nimoy. As Christians we are told to be made into the likeness of Christ. We are to be patterning his life on earth. Our thoughts and actions should show the character of Christ. And as we imitate Jesus, acting as he would act, saying what he would say, are we able to see the same marks of change?

Rather than method acting, perhaps Nimoy and Spock can be for us an image of being made into the likeness of our savior. And you know? That’s the true way to “live long and prosper.”

Until next time, may God bless you and yours.

Leah Barkoukis – In South Korea, Abandoned Babies Find Hope in an Unusual Place

The Drop Box film.

Source: townhall.com

"Ding-dong! Ding-dong!"

Anywhere else this would be the innocuous sound of a doorbell. But at the Jusarang Community Church in Seoul, South Korea, it’s the sound of a baby being abandoned by its mother in a makeshift drop box at the front entrance.

Appropriately inscribed above the ‘baby box’ is Psalm 27:10—“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up.”

It’s in the wee hours of the morning, under the cover of darkness, when many mothers bring their babies to Pastor Lee Jong-rak, who’s made it his mission in life to care for these children so they are not abandoned on the streets to die. To him, every child is wanted, every child is loved, no matter the deformities, genetic disorders, or health issues.

In a society that highly stigmatizes children born out of wedlock and those with disabilities, so many women (and sometimes their family members) feel abandonment is their only choice. The country’s birth registration system makes anonymity impossible, opening the door to public ridicule and, for teen mothers, being kicked out of high school.

Feds Raid California ‘Maternity Hotels’ for Birth Tourists

Southern California apartment complexes that doubled as “maternity hotels” for Chinese women who want made-in-America babies were raided early Tues…

Source: www.nbcnews.com

The organizers who allegedly ran the Carlyle site, Chao Chen and Dong Li, used a website to drum up business, touting the benefits of a child with U.S. citizenship: 13 years of free education, low-cost college financial aid, less pollution, and a path for the entire family to emigrate when the child becomes an adult.

Clients were counseled on what lies to tell to obtain a tourist visa; how to fly through Hawaii, Las Vegas or Korea to avoid suspicious immigration officers at Los Angeles International Airport; and how to disguise their pregnancy in transit, according to search warrant affidavit unsealed Tuesday.

The women were then set up at the Carlyle, which charges about $3,000 a month for a two-bedroom apartment and features amenities including private balconies, a resort-style pool, and cabanas with flat-screen televisions.

The women’s handlers provided transportation for doctor visits and trips to restaurants and shops, the court papers say. An agent tailing one of the suspects followed them to Target and Babies R Us.

They were funneled to several Orange County hospitals to deliver, but they didn’t pay full price — approximately $25,000 — for medical services, officials said. Instead, they got reduced rates for the indigent, ranging from nothing to $4,000, the court papers say.

Our immigration law is broken alright, but not for the reasons given by Obama and his party. Why in the world do we have a policy in the United States of America that says if you give birth to a child on American soil while traveling on a tourist visa that child is automatically an American citizen? Does this same policy work for US citizens traveling to child to give birth? Do the children born in China on a tourist visa get to be Chinese citizens upon birth?

This is insanity. Hey Obama and the rest of you blokes on Capital Hill give a listen. There is an entire industry based on birth tourism. This story only covers the Chinese women giving birth I am sure there are a lot more women crossing our southern border without any VISA to do the very same thing.

This policy should be stopped immediately. And put and end to all this CHAIN migration that keeps happening.

When you think you have it all together; think again

The actress Jennifer Lawrence, famous for her role in The Hunger Games films, has had a long battle with anxiety and insecurity. In a 2014 interview, she said:

[In middle school] there are all these peers judging you, and you’re never good enough, never wearing the right outfit, saying the right thing. I want everyone to like me. Who doesn’t? Then you grow up and become famous, and it’s the same thing multiplied by a billion.

When she saw herself on a recent TV program being interviewed, she had a full-fledged panic attack. Ms. Lawrence said,

“All of a sudden it was like being hit by a train—this realization of how many people are looking at me, how many opinions there are.”

In her worst moments, she’s certain her career will come crashing down. “People are going to get sick of me,” she said. “I’m way too annoying. But if people want to start a backlash [against me], I’m the captain of the team. As much as you hate me, I’m ten steps ahead of you.”

—Celebrities seem to have it all, but apart from Christ, like the rest of us, they will struggle with anxiety and insecurity.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

It is easy to get fixated on our shortcomings if all we have as a frame of reference is ourselves or someone else. It is easy to think that the other person has it all together because they are famous, or popular, but we all wrestle with our own insecurities. Some have a  very low self-esteem while others seem to reek with self-confidence. Just because a person may seem to have life all figured out  does not mean that they do no struggle in private.

Our focus should not be on ourselves, or even fixated on a celebrity. We should seek a higher vision instead. On not corruptible by the stains of this world.
