Are Conservatives Really Conservative?

In this recent Gallop poll 40% of those surveyed called themselves conservative with 56% of the respondents calling themselves either liberal or moderates. I have long contended that moderates are simply liberals refusing to acknowledge their true identities. Wearing the label ’moderate’ does not bring with it the same baggage as those who wear the label of ’liberal’.

So then if moderates are only closet liberals it is easy to understand why our country is leaning so far left. 56% of the population are liberal or liberal leaning. It is possible that some of the moderates would lean toward conservatism but personally I do not think this is proven in another study I cite below.

Did you notice anything strange about this table? If according to the above Gallop Poll 40% of the population is conservative why are liberal spending programs not favored by 40% of the population for limited spending? It seems strange the socialistic programs of Social Security (notice the word SOCIAL is in the title) and Medicare are not even considered by “conservatives” for spending cuts.

The only program that receives the majority of votes for spending cuts is in foreign aid. Basically then if this study proves to be correct 71% of the American people surveyed prefer socialism at home and not abroad. Considering foreign aid only amounts to 1% of total government spending I am afraid Socialism is here to stay in America.

The majority of people in this country-including a large chunk of those identified as conservative remain closet socialists on social security and medicare, and really for almost every category of public spending. Those who responded to the Gallop poll that they are conservative have some real explaining to do. How can you call yourself a conservative and vote for continued Socialism in America? The direction America is going is the opposite of what the founders of this great nation fought and died for. Listen to the words of Thomas Jefferson as penned in the Declaration of Independence, the list of grievances the colonies had with King George. Where it says he replace it with Obama and then ask yourself if you still consider yourself a conservative.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people (circumventing representation by formulating policies and writing laws behind closed doors excluding any republican legislator from the process, along with Pelosi suspending public debate on legislation and deeming a non-existant budget as passed)

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands. (actually in this case it would be the reverse, not enforcing naturalization laws and forbidding states to do so)

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. (too many to list but let us start with IRS, EPA, NEA, and the list of government bureaus grows rapidly year after year)

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation: (subjecting us to the Law of the UN)

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments: (negating bankruptcy laws in the Chrysler and GM bailouts, negating mortgage contracts in the home foreclosure laws being passed and suing a sovereign state)

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever. (passing health care despite overwhelming opposition to it thus ignoring the voice of the people, the appointment of czars to enact policy and regulations effecting the nation)

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us,… (after all he was a community organizer)

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people. (and yet he is, as the tea-party protest grew louder the slurs and ridicule grew stronger)

Today we accept as normal the constant harassment of the federal government, and confiscation of personal property far beyond anything King George could have enacted or imagined. Our acceptance of it is our Declaration of Dependence-dependence on government invasion and coercion. What our founders fought to free themselves from, the majority today fights to keep.

The dark force behind socialism is the public’s demand for and dependence upon government handouts. They not only demand them they stand in the way of anyone who tries to cut them. The only way to reverse this trend is for those who are truly conservative to stand up and say no more government handouts of any kind. We need to ween ourselves off the teats of the federal government. We have to stop looking for the tyrannical state to come to our aid. We have to once again call upon the providence of God and as a free people we need to learn to live like it, or we will be forever enslaved to the tyrannical rule of the government, which will grow exceedingly large under each successive reincarnation until the entire weight of it comes crashing down upon our heads.

Sadly, millions of Americans willingly accept the belief that government is the engine of change for all that is good in society (they voted for hope and change). If history is any indicator, that belief is ill-placed. How many past political regimes that promised salvation wrought tyranny and oppression instead? The absence of any exceptions proves the rule. The problem with socialism is those who promote it are the only ones who benefit from it (those who wrest their power from the people by making dependents of those same people.) We have no one to blame but ourselves as these studies show. Although 40% say they are conservative, there is no proof of those same 40% holding any real conservative convictions when it comes to socialism. They, along with the rest of America, still wish to receive government handouts.

This is “A View from the Nest” what say you?

Government Addiction the New Drug of the New Deal Generation

American Thinker posted this great piece describing our current financial state in America to that of a drug addict. How proper it is to use such an analogy. The addict will do just about anything to feed his/her habit, and it has become clear that our government will do the same to continue their addictive spending sprees.

The dealer hooks the addict on their wares and the addict continues patronize the dealer, thereby enabling the pusher to continue to push his/her poison until one or the other or both end up dead.

Oh how I wish I could hasten the demise of these pushers, thereby enabling the addict a chance at getting clean. Come this November I certainly plan to do my part to rid DC of as many drug pushers as possible with the pulling of the lever on the polling machine. I hope to pull that lever and flush a great deal of human excrement right out of the White House. Let’s face it folks DC needs an enema.

But let us not forget, America needs detoxification. For too long we have allowed ourselves to become addicted to government largesse and our addictions have taken control of our senses.

For the past hundred years, America has been slowly moving away from the principles of its founding. The ideals of liberty, individual achievement, limited government, and the equality of opportunity have been slowly supplanted by calls for security, class warfare, excessive regulation, and the equality of outcome. The passage of stimulus acts, bailouts, government takeovers of two U.S. automakers, and the health care overhaul prove that our movement away from 1776 has accelerated.

Over the past hundred years, we have slowly allowed a monstrous system of dependence to develop until nearly every citizen relies upon government money, and thus is an addict. This has come about because the hard logic of the Founders has been replaced by the seductive ease of emotional arguments. All too often, the debate is over not if government should do something, but what it should do. This almost imperceptible shift in our national philosophy is a manifestation of our addiction.

While the citizen-addict is hooked on government largesse, the politician-addict is hooked on something far more sinister: power. Their drug is available in Washington, D.C. Just as a dealer will go to any length to continue selling his wares, politicians will stop at nothing to retain their power. These two groups of addicts are locked in mutual co-dependence, where the politician-addict seeking re-election buys off the citizen-addict with more spending. Then the citizen-addict, seeking yet another free lunch from Washington, reelects the politician-addict. The result is endless, ever-expanding government programs and our current fiscal nightmare.

This is why America is lost. Too many Americans are hooked for us to return to a sound economic footing via the normal political processes. Our efforts to moderate the most radical agendas — welfare reform, for example — serve only to delay the inevitable. In fact, many of those reforms are quietly undermined as the slow march towards collapse continues. We cannot alter our current trajectory; expansive government, greater entitlements, and ever-increasing taxes are our fate. Attempts by responsible citizens at reform will be only partially successful, not changing the fundamentals of our dilemma.

Detoxing America will cause social, political, and economic strife of a sort unimaginable, and yet it is a process we must endure. Hitting bottom is our only hope for a national rehabilitation. It is our only chance for a true reacquaintance with those principles that made this the greatest nation on earth: liberty, individual achievement, limited government, and the equality of opportunity. The Obama Touch: All that Glitter is Not Gold

clipped from www.americanthinker.com
The legendary King Midas was given the gift of the golden touch; everything he touched would turn to gold. Excited at first, he learned the price of greed when the food he tried to eat turned to gold and when he even turned his own daughter into a hunk of gold.
King Obama, twentieth century America, has a magic touch, too. Everything he touches turns to … well … donkey dust… owl hockey… bull shavings… bunny pellets… that sort of thing.

Unemployment remains at nearly ten percent and underemployment at around twenty percent, despite the stimulus.

The deficit is soaring to trillions of dollars.

The healthcare reform bill is now revealing itself to be a huge financial burden to businesses and state Medicaid programs alike, running into the billions of dollars of additional costs.

Social Security is in the red in 2010.

Debt is projected to be at $20 trillion by 2020.

Children shouldn’t have to provide for their parents, but parents should provide for their children. 2 Cor 12:14 (GW)

The more I listen to political news pundits promote Obama’s "stimulus package" I have to pause and reflect on the wisdom of scripture. The more debt we amass for our children and their children, the less responsible we are as good stewards of what God has entrusted us with. It was the misuse of credit and deficit spending that has gotten us into this mess in the first place. Taking out loan obligations that are beyond our abilities to pay is irresponsible, and I might add sinful. God does not take too kindly to greed and avarice.

This is what happens to everyone who is greedy for unjust gain. Greed takes away his life. Proverbs 1:19 (GW)

Do not wear yourself out getting rich. Be smart enough to stop. >Proverbs 23:4 (GW)

10 Whoever loves money will never be satisfied with money. Whoever loves wealth will never be satisfied with more income. Even this is pointless. 11 As the number of goods increase, so do the number of people who consume them. What do owners gain {from all their goods} except {the opportunity} to look at them? 12 The sleep of working people is sweet, whether they eat a little or a lot. But the full stomachs that rich people have will not allow them to sleep. >Ecclesiastes 5:10-12 (GW)

6 How horrible it will be for the one who makes himself rich with what is not his own and makes himself wealthy on loans. How long will this go on?’ 7 Won’t your creditors suddenly rise up and those who are going to shake you wake up? Then you will become their prize. >Habakkuk 2:6-7 (GW)

We ignored common sense and good judgment when we heard about instant credit and ‘no payments, no interest’ loan schemes.   The purpose of these scams was to sell us goods we could not otherwise afford. So when the time came for the price to be paid, there was not enough money so we found ourselves in default. The fault is we have borrowed against our futures and our children’s futures and thusly done wickedly in God’s sight.

In our rush to ‘profit’ we disregarded solid biblical counsel and have reaped what we have sown. The promise of ‘get it now pay later’ has been too appealing for too long. Too many have drunk from the fountain of ‘easy terms, easy credit’. ‘Take what you want’ and not just what you need has been instilled in far too many of our citizenry, including those of the Christian faith.

It is to those who profess Christ that I address these comments. I fully expect those who do not accept Jesus as Lord, to do as their own selfish motives would dictate, but as Christians we are held to a far higher standard. This includes Christian businessmen and political leaders.

We do not need bailouts or handouts. We need repentance. We need to address our greed and lust for more and seriously repent of our sin before God. Parents, it is not the responsibility of your children or your children’s children to provide for your greed. It is selfish of us to think that we can continue to borrow against our future generations and bankrupt them while we continually pad our nests with more and more needless things.

If we were looking out for our children and actually laying up treasures for them then perhaps we would not be in the mess we now find ourselves. We are not providing for our children if we expect them to pay for our retirement programs because of our failure to plan ahead. We  are not providing for our children when we demand special low-cost medical care while saddling them with the increased costs of providing it. We are not caring or loving our children when we force them to pay over-inflated prices for homes, goods and services because we want to make huge profits. We are profiting off the backs of our children. Shame on us! We do not deserve a bail out. We deserve judgment from God. Repent so God can bless us once again. Let us get back to Godly wisdom when it comes to handling our finances. May the Lord have mercy on us all!

But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)

The Ire of Ike- The Wrath of God

The Ire of Ike- The Wrath of God
Insight for your “Journey across the Sky”
A View from the Nest www.eagleviews.org

when panic strikes you like a violent storm, when calamity strikes you like a wind storm, when trouble and anguish come to you. 28 “They will call to me at that time, but I will not answer. They will look for me, but they will not find me, 29 because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 1:27-29 (GW)

It has been more than two weeks since the remnants of hurricane Ike came roaring through Western Pennsylvania. Ike’s ire left many homes without electricity, some for more than a week as high winds whipped through the area. By the time Ike reached Western Pennsylvania most of it’s fury had dissipated.

Although Western Pennsylvania did not withstand the full force of Ike’s ire, the damage caused by the weakened storm was still substantial. I want to add that by comparison to Texas and those who suffered under the full force of Ike our encounter with Ike was mild. Notwithstanding he still threw quite a punch.

As Hurricane Ike pushed a swelling surge onto Galveston Island, many Galveston residents who ignored a mandatory evacuation order, phoned for rescues to no avail because emergency workers were called off the streets, officials said. Help wasn’t expected until after dangerous storm conditions subsided. “We don’t know what we’re going to find tomorrow,” said the city’s mayor, Lyda Ann Thomas. “We hope we’ll find that the people who didn’t leave here are alive and well.”

“We asked them to write their Social Security numbers on their arms for us,” Police Chief Randy Smith said solemnly.
Earlier that morning, he had a face to face with David Fields and another man who were unwilling to leave.

“Let’s grab on and go,” Smith told Fields, a carpenter who has lived here six years. “Come back when it is over, that is the thing to do.”

Fields declined. “This is my home.”

About two hours later, Fields and his wife, Dondi and their dog, Sandy Beach, were ferried to safety in a daring effort involving a Coast Guard boat and a flat-bed military style truck.

Using a black marker and perhaps fearing the worst, Dondi had followed police instructions and written her Social Security number on one arm and a message, “I Love You,” to her seven grown children in the event she didn’t make it out alive.

Human nature being what it is, it is not hard to understand why some people would chose to ignore a mandatory evacuation order from the Mayor of Galveston. Even when homeland security secretary Michael Chernoff said that Ike appeared to be a real devastating storm many still refused to take heed. Shortly after the storm hit upon the barrier island many who had previously refused to leave where calling for help. After a period of time help was no longer available.

The Example of Noah

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6:5-8 (NKJV)

And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. Genesis 6:13-14 (NKJV)

And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him. 6 Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth. 7 So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. Genesis 7:5-7 (NKJV)

On the very same day Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark– 14 they and every beast after its kind, all cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort. 15 And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life. 16 So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in. Genesis 7:13-16 (NKJV)

Apparently human nature, being what it is, men are slow to repent and heed warnings, even when their very lives are at stake. As it was during hurricane Ike, so it was during the time of Noah and his family.

When the rains started to come after Noah finished building the ark, God shut Noah and his family in and would not allow anyone else to get on board. They were given plenty of time to repent of their wickedness but they too refused to leave behind their way of life. Therefore when the flood finally came upon them they were all swept out to sea and drowned, except Noah and his family who rode out the storm from the safety of the ark.

The Example of Lot

Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground. 2 And he said, “Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” And they said, “No, but we will spend the night in the open square.” 3 But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. 4 Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. 5 And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.” Genesis 19:1-5 (NKJV)

So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, 7 and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly! 8 See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.” 9 And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door. 10 But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door. 11 And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door. Genesis 19:6-11 (NKJV)

Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city–take them out of this place! 13 For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.” 14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking. 15 When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” 16 And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. 17 So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.” Genesis 19:12-17 (NKJV)

Two angels were dispatched to the city of Sodom to warn Lot and his family of the coming disaster that would soon befall them because of the wickedness of the people. In fact when these “strangers” arrived in town certain men of the city wanted to have their way with them sexually. Things had gotten so bad that Lot offered his two virgin daughters to them instead but they refused his offer because of their carnality. In fact they turned to punish Lot for his “judging” attitude towards them. When Lot told his sons-in-law about the coming disaster they thought he had lost his mind. Even Lot had to be helped out the door, being led by hand by the angels, when the time came for judgment to fall on the city. Again it would appear that even when faced with certain death our human nature wants to put up a fight. After all, we reason God is a loving God and surely He would not destroy the earth.

Like the people in Noah’s day, the Sodomites soon found out that judgment surely follows after sin.

I am not in any way implying that the recent hurricane activity along the Gulf coast is punishment from God or judgment of wicked living in anyway, but what I am saying is, human nature being like it is, we easily dismiss dire warnings oft times to our own peril.

The bible warns of a soon coming worldwide calamity that will take many lives as well. How tragic for humankind. When faced with certain death and destruction many will refuse to heed the warning.

“When the Son of Man comes again, the situation will be like the time of Noah. 27 People were eating, drinking, and getting married until the day that Noah went into the ship. Then the flood destroyed all of them. 28 “The situation will also be like the time of Lot. People were eating, drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But on the day that Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from the sky and destroyed all of them. 30 The day when the Son of Man is revealed will be like that. Luke 17:26-30 (GW)

Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.” 8 Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.” 9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.” 12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. Rev 14:6-12 (ESV)

The Ire of Ike is nothing when compared to the wrath of God. Revelation reveals a time in the not so distant future when judgment shall befall the inhabitants of the land. Notice in verses 9-11 there is an indelible mark on the arms or foreheads of those who are destined to receive punishment. Like the rescue workers told those who refused to leave Galveston Island to mark their arms with their Social Security numbers so they could be identified after they were found dead. Those who are marked with the mark of the beast will be easy to identify when the wrath of God is poured out onto the earth.

Let anyone who has ear, let him hear what the spirit is saying to the church. It is time to take notice and pay attention. Noah was found righteous in the eyes of the Lord and he was spared the disaster of his day. Lot had Uncle Abraham praying for him and as a result the Lord, because of His love for Abraham, sent angels to rescue Lot. God sent Jesus into the world to proclaim the soon coming kingdom of God and anyone who receives his Spirit will be sealed (marked) when the time for God’s wrath is poured out.

Jesus will be our ark of safety if we call upon him. Jesus, like Abraham is constantly praying  for all those who are to be saved. Because we have found favor in the eyes of the Lord because of Jesus, we too can be spared the coming storm of God’s wrath.

In that day the angels will be dispatched to the earth to rescue the righteous and to punish the wicked. Will you be ready and willing to go? Or will you be like those who refused to leave Ike’s path of destruction, even when warned ahead of time of the dangers? When that time comes it will be too late to call out for help because the door to the ark of safety will have already been shut by God himself.
But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)
