The New Declaration of Dependence

Political Cartoon by Gary Varvel
There was a time when individual rights and responsibilities where considered American. Now it would appear that individual dependency and irresponsibility are in vogue. Therefore it is only fitting that we rewrite the Declaration of Independence to accomodate the changing times. We the freeloaders hold these truths to be self-evident…

Loony Tune Award Winner: Oakland Pastor Arrested for holding sign

Yes sirree bob, our society is in a tailspin. To think Oakland, CA feels that sign holding is a crime punishable by jail time and yet overlooks the crime of violence committed against underage girls in the name of REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS. A minor does not have to inform a parent when undergoing a life threatening procedure, and Oakland finds nothing immoral or criminal about that. Neither does the city find the wholesale slaughter of innocent life a criminal act, what they find offensive is a Pastor holding a sign offering an alternative solution to a life ending decision.

Hmm I wonder if Oakland would arrest this same Pastor for holding up a sign offering hope to a potential suicide jumper?

Oakland has sanctioned murder for hire and look the other way. A lonely black Pastor cares enough to want to help and he is arrested. This one certainly earns the Loony Tune award.

A travesty of justice has occurred in Oakland, California. But realities surrounding this local issue point to how the economic crisis in our nation is symptomatic of and flows from a deeper fundamental moral crisis.

A black pastor awaits sentencing, which could amount to two years in prison and $4,000 in fines, for standing outside an inner city abortion clinic holding a sign saying “Jesus Loves You & Your Baby, Let Us Help You,” and offering pro-life literature.

Walter Hoye, founder and chairman of the Issues4Life Foundation, was found guilty of “unlawful approach” under the “Access to Reproductive Health Care Facilities Ordinance” enacted in Oakland in 2008.

Under the ordinance, it is prohibited, within 100 feet of the entrance to a “reproductive health facility,” to approach within eight feet of a client “for the purpose of counseling, harassing, or interfering” with that person.

Pastor Hoye’s conviction is strange in that no “victim” testified against him

Chinese Set to Mass Produce ECO-Friendly Vehicle

China has announced they are ready to mass produce an Eco-friendly vehicle to the world market as soon as certain Environmental issues are resolved. According to one report environmentalists are a little concerned over the amount of CO2 emissions from this new vehicle.

The internal combustion engine’s only emissions are H2O and CO2 yet the environmentalists feel the CO2 levels are too high to qualify as a truly carbon neutral vehicle. However they state it certainly is a move in the right direction.

Although not entirely carbon fuel free the engine surely out performs other internal combustion engines in its fuel efficiency. China expects to iron out the environmental issues in time to release the new models by late Spring 2009.

In other news a mid-Pennsylvania manufacturer has been working feverishly on their own bio-fuel eco-friendly vehicle. Using technology from Pennsylvania’s rich agricultural heritage, ABC manufacturing has been able to mass produce a fuel efficient mass transit vehicle that should meet stricter environmental standards currently under consideration in Congress. Representatives of the company expect good consumer acceptance of their offering. Priced thousands less than GM, FORD or Chrysler Hybrids, ABC manufacturing hopes to cash in on the economy car market with their latest offering.

Christmas Icons Cause Distrubance in North Carolina School District.

ImageIn North Carolina the Christmas song “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” was temporarily banned from being sung by children at a Christmas concert. Why? Apparently a parent complained that the song contained the words “Christmas” and “Santa,” words which she believes carry religious overtones and finds offensive.

Apparently Santa and Rudolph are the new symbols of the Christmas Story. No longer are Shepherds, sheep and angels symbols of the Story of Christmas. I am not surprised that this has happened for even in the church house the Christmas tree is of more improtance than the Christmas Star, that Star being the Lord Jesus Christ who came to earth, born of a virgin, to save us from sin and death. No longer is the Heralding angels announcing the birth of a King the focal point for they have been replaced with advertisements and parades heralding the arrival of Santa Clause.

If this is not a commentary on the state of our culture than I do not know what is. Perhaps it is time the church stop celebrating Christmas and start celebrating the life of Christ. What say you?
