Students Speech Bedevils College Professor

Another example of liberalism gone mad. The student did not violate any laws nor did he violate the rules of the assignment. The only crime Jonathan committed was not being sensitive to political correctness. And for that he was demonized and belittled in class for which he paid to be there. How ironic isn’t it that the very professors who have their jobs at the expense of the students who pay to attend their classes attack these same students. Sounds a great deal like our current political system who are all PAID by taxpayers belittling and bashing those same taxpayers. Talking about biting the hand that feeds you. It is stories like this that convinces me that higher education isn’t.

speechA Christian student in the Los Angeles Community College District is carrying his free-speech case to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jonathan Lopez had an assignment in a public speaking class and was required to give an informative speech on any topic.
Lopez chose to speak about his Christian beliefs. “And during that speech, when he mentioned that marriage is between a man and a woman according to his Christian beliefs, the professor called him this horrible name, refused to let him finish the assignment, and told other students in the class, ‘If you’re offended, you can leave,'”
When no students left, the professor dismissed the class. Hacker adds that Lopez is an “A” student — “but the problem is he never got a grade on that informative speech, and in fact, the professor wrote on his evaluation form, ‘Ask God what your grade is.'”
The lower court in Los Angeles issued a preliminary injunction against the school,

University of Arkansas Steps Up Racial Controversy

And yet another cry of foul comes bellowing out of the ashes of racial equality. I watched this video and from what I saw these girls where being cheered wildly for their step routine. When it came time to announce the winners of the $100,000 scholarship check you can clearly hear the audience shouting Zeta Tau Alpha as their pick. There does not seem to be the tiniest hint of racial tension or discrimination taking place in that auditorium.

So then were exactly does this racial tension come from? Who is it that cried fowl? Was it the second place team because they were not able to arouse the audience to root for them as well as the Arkansas team did? This sounds more like POOR SPORTSMANSHIP to this old bird and not anything racial. If this competition was to be a Black only event then this Arkansas team should not have even been allowed to compete. If there was an entrance fee to pay and every team paid their fair then, like any other competition, there can only be one winner. The loser here I believe is Sprite for acquiescing to racial pressure and awarding a second $100,000 scholarship.

It is apparent to this writer that the only place racial discrimination seems to rear its ugly head is in the so called “establishment” mentality. It is all this POLITICAL correctness that is mudding the waters of social harmony. It is segregationist thinking being propagated by organizations seeking their own aggrandizement that continues to fuel the flames of racial divisiveness. These organizations and their associated leaders have long ago lost relevancy but yet they continue to manufacture relevance by stirring racial tension at every opportunity afforded them. These same organizations would argue over the amount of Vanilla ice cream served versus Chocolate in an ice cream parlor if they could garner prestige and relevance by doing so.

To the ladies of Arkansas University I say WELL DONE! To those propagating racial unrest I say take a seat, your time has come and gone. And to Sprite I say shame on you for caving to this contrivance of a controversy. Everyone present had a fair chance of winning and there was not even a hint of partiality or discrimination shown in the awarding of the initial scholarship. In fact you would have thought the girls from Arkansas would not have had an even chance in a sport dominated by the African American culture. Yet the crowd loved them.

To those crying foul here is your DODO bird award! Eagle out!

Postal Service Facing Huge Deficits

Another federally run program finds itself facing huge deficits. How many times must the same story be told before the average American wakes up to the failures of the federal government to run anything successfully. The only successful businesses in the United States are those which run on the free market principles of capitalism where supply and demand and open competition are the reins that control the business cycle. Those businesses that do not keep up with the demand at competitive prices are replaced by those which do. However when it comes to government run MONOPOLIES they always loose money, and will continue to loose money because there is no reason for them to be competitive.

MailboxThe United States Postal Service is making bleak predictions about its financial future, leaving many observers to wonder if a taxpayer bailout is in the offing since Congress sets many of the rules the agency operates under.

Postmaster General John Potter released estimates yesterday predicting that the U.S. Postal Service could suffer $238 billion in losses in the next decade if Congress, regulators, and unions do not give the agency more flexibility in setting delivery schedules, price increases, and labor costs.
“The government has a monopoly on first-class mail services,”
‘m thinking that a lot of folks out there who enjoy their Saturday mail delivery — or might want Sunday mail delivery — might be willing to pay a price to a private firm to get such services. But they can’t do that because the government doesn’t allow any competition.”
the USPS is “weighed down” by unionized labor compensation and benefits, which make up 80 percent of the agency’s cost structure.

LA’s Failing Public Schools Denied Charter School Access

Although given an opportunity to actually effect change, union leaders in LA chose instead to keep things pretty much as they were by refusing to allow Charter School operators to take over 13 of it’s failing schools. Once again the status quo is maintained and our children will continue to loose out on a quality education. The teacher unions are ruining our schools and yet they are allowed to continue with business as usual.

For the obvious reasons then this decision earns the LA school system the DODO bird award.

Government Red Tape Stalls Home Weatherization Projects

Isn’t it obvious by now that there is absolutely nothing the federal government can do to IMPROVE anything? It is so huge that it trips over it’s own regulatory feet everything it attempts to take 2 steps.

It is time WE THE PEOPLE bring this giant down. Do I here a David playing on his harp?

A $5 billion stimulus program to weatherize homes is off to a shaky start. ABC News reports that at the end of 2009, only 9,100 have been weatherized to save energy
What’s the problem? Everything, to start, but in this instance it is the government’s red tape:
Under that law, the grants may only go to projects that pay a “prevailing wage” on par with private-sector employers.
The Department of Labor spent most of the past year trying to determine the prevailing wage for weatherization work, a determination that had to be made for each of the more than 3,000 counties in the United States
Secondly, many homes have to go through a National Historic Preservation Trust review before work can begin.
The other lesson from this is that one way to actually create jobs and make projects driven by the private sector more efficient is to streamline  regulatory barriers that unnecessarily prohibit the shovel from hitting the ground.
