First up tonight is this story from Washington Times. Obama has decided that illegals who entered this country uninvited, and somehow were able to land jobs using a phony Social Security number can apply for an actual Social Security number to file their taxes. Not only can they get a legal SS# but they can then apply for the Earned Income Tax credit retroactively for up to the last 3 yrs for which they worked in this country illegally.

I am not a fan of these tax credits whether it is the EITC or the child tax credit because it establishes inequality under the law by giving special privileges to a certain class of people. And I am certainly not in favor or giving someone a check against a tax bill they do not owe. In other words once your tax bill reaches zero and you do not owe the federal government any tax money you should not get a check in the mail from other taxpayers.

The IRS calls this an Earned Income tax credit but if the EITC ends up being more than your tax bill it is no longer a credit but a transfer of wealth payment (welfare). I can see offering a credit that eliminates your tax burden but not to make a profit from.

Secondly these folks have worked in the country illegally and they should be fined and or imprisoned along with the companies that hire them not rewarded for their illegal activity. There is nothing noble about these people who could, if they really wanted to, go into any immigration office and apply for legal citizenship status and apply for a work permit and become legal. These folks refuse to take that simple step and yet our government is telling us that for some reason these folks deserve special treatment.

Not only can these illegals claim the EITC for past years when they filed a tax return even if they did not file a return they will be able to claim the EITC. Now I understand that unless you are a prominent democrat if you fail to file and pay taxes you are subject to fines and a jail sentence. In fact the IRS code increases the penalties and interest for those who file fraudulent returns, I would think a tax return using a fake SS# would qualify as fraud.

So then if the government is going to give special exemptions for ILLEGAL residents of the US then shouldn’t a LEGAL citizen be given the same exemptions?

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told Congress on Wednesday that even illegal immigrants who didn’t pay taxes will be able to claim back-refunds once they get Social Security numbers under President Obama’s temporary deportation amnesty.

Shouldn’t these students be celebrating the advances made toward curbing global warming? A record cold snap once again grips the northeast where Yale is located and I would think that most of the residents of the great white northeast are hoping for some GLOBAL WARMING to end this barrage of record snowfall. In fact I am sure more than one resident of the frozen northeast are thankful for the OIL and gas-fired heater systems installed in their homes.

Others are not so thankful and want to promote green energy like solar and wind. How much sun does a solar panel collect while buried under 6 feet of snow? How much wind energy can a wind turbine produce while frozen solid with several inches of ice?

As I sit here and freeze while temperatures hover in the single digits I am so thankful for the warmth of a well heated home. And I for one am praying for some global warming to take place real soon. If the alternative is more freezing temperatures and another ice age I say let’s do whatever we can to raise the global temperatures it is far easier to stay cool then it is to keep warm.

And that is the way I see it. What say you?

There is a Ph.D. dissertation in it for whoever can figure out why we always prefer those who hate us. The spectacle of a few weeks ago of students at the University of California, Davis, heckling their Jewish peers and shouting “Allahu Akbar” would be merely funny if it were not tragic.

Crony capitalism, not lousy output, worst part of giant solar plant

The world’s largest solar power plant opened this week in Southern California and while some are applauding the operations, others are not. The 550-megawatt Desert Sunlight solar project is in the town of Desert Center, California. That’s near the Joshua Tree National Park. Officials say the project generates enough electricity to power 160,000 homes, USA Today reported.

Desert Sunlight is owned by three mega-million dollar corporations, and yet they are given TAXPAYER money as loan guarentees to invest in this project. A similar project in Nevada has not lived up to its hype for power production. The reason given for its underperformance was it was cloudy. Most of these ‘green energy initiatives’ are not profitable businesses therefore in order to entice mega-million dollar businesses to invest in a loosing project is to guarentee them TAXPAYER funded loans. If the companies fail the taxpayer will be given the bill. Heck I would start a business if I had the guarentee of the federal government that someone else was going to pay for it if it failed.

How much more of this crony-capitialism are we going to take? Remember for every dollar the federal government gives to these multi-million dollar corporations is one less dollar you have to provide for your family. We have to work very hard for the dollars we earn, we do not have a deep pocketed sugar daddy handing us millions of dollars to line our pockets with.

The bloggosphere is all a twiiter about President Obama’s remarks at the National Prayer breakfast last Thursday. During his speech Obama spoke against violence committed in the name of religion, and stated that Christians have been just as guilty as Muslims and other terror groups of this crime.

He equated the Crusades with the Muslim jihad as if the two are equal. The Christian crusades came about as a result of Muslim jihad and were a defensive move to protect Christians who were being killed by Muslim jihadists, much like today. Unlike the Muslim jihad, the Christian crusades ended centuries ago.

Misconceptions about the Crusades are all too common. The Crusades are generally portrayed as a series of holy wars against Islam led by power-mad popes and fought by religious fanatics. They are supposed to have been the epitome of self-righteousness and intolerance, a black stain on the history of the Catholic Church in particular and Western civilization in general. A breed of proto-imperialists, the Crusaders introduced Western aggression to the peaceful Middle East and then deformed the enlightened Muslim culture, leaving it in ruins. For variations on this theme, one need not look far. See, for example, Steven Runciman’s famous three-volume epic, History of the Crusades, or the BBC/A&E documentary, The Crusades, hosted by Terry Jones. Both are terrible history yet wonderfully entertaining.

Not much has changed when it comes to the Muslim jihadists since they are attacking the same region and the same people groups as they did centuries ago. In fact their war on Christianity has never ended. Except for the Crusaders Europe would have been a Muslim Caliph today.

The true intent of the Muslim Jihadists is to rid the world of Christianity and Jewry. That crusade has never ended. Christians on the other hand may have given up the fight to make disciples of all nations, teaching and baptising in the name of Jesus Christ.

TurboTax Temporarily Halts E-Filing In All States Amid Fraud Concerns

As of yesterday, Thursday, February 5, Intuit is temporarily pausing transmission of state e-filing tax returns. This is effective for all states. Intuit will be working with the states today to begin turning transmissions back on.

In the meantime, to assist any customers who believe they are victims of tax fraud, Intuit has a dedicated toll-free number, 1.800.944.8596, with direct access to specially trained identity protection agents who will provide comprehensive support and filing assistance. You might note that’s the same number that Minnesota has provided to taxpayers. It is not a state-specific number. It is available to all potentially affected taxpayers.

In addition, Intuit will provide identity protection services and free credit monitoring, as well as provide access to all versions of its software or to the assistance of one of Intuit’s credentialed tax experts who will prepare taxes for affected customers at no expense.

It’s important to note that as of now, this issue is only being reported by taxpayers using TurboTax.

So far, there has been no indication that federal returns have been affected.
The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment

Here’s something that many Americans — including some of the smartest and most educated among us — don’t know: The official unemployment rate, as reported by the U.S. Department of Labor, is extremely misleading. Right now, we’re hearing much celebrating from the media, the White House and Wall Street about how unemployment is “down” to 5.6%.

The unemployment numbers are misleading because they fail to indicate the number of people who have given up looking for work but are UNEMPLOYED. The number also includes part-time workers who are counted as EMPLOYED by the government figures but are not working at a full-time job. In fact full-time jobs are at an all time low with only 44% of the population holding full-time jobs (30+ hours a week). If you work one hour a week and get paid a measely $20 you are counted as employed by the government numbers.

Since Obama assumed the office of President the JUnited States has lost 13million full-time jobs and to date has only gained back 3 million. We have another 10 million jobs to go just to break even. There is nothing good about the jobs report other than to say it is trending upward ever so slowly.

Given what we know now, only Barack Obama could attempt to characterize his economic record as one of achievement rather than historic failure. Only Obama could attempt to characterize his record on deficits, which dwarf those of any other president that preceded him, as a successful one.
