Atheists Target Bible Belt at Christmas Time


Atheists are targeting the Bible Belt during this Christmas season, putting up billboards that condemn belief in Jesus.

The group American Atheist are urging people to skip church this Christmas and stop listening to “fairy tales.”

 

“Even children know churches spew absurdity, which is why they don’t want to attend services. Enjoy the time with your family and friends instead,” said American Atheists President David Silverman.

 

The new billboards feature an image of a young girl writing a letter to Santa Claus, which reads: “Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is to skip church! I’m too old for fairy tales.”

 

So they pick a picture of a child writing to Santa Claus about not believing in fairy tales. I guess they did not catch the irony.

Why Nativity Scenes Matter in the Public Square

When Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, he explained that our freedoms come from God. "All men are created equal," he says, and "they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Jefferson also clearly stated that the purpose of civil government was "to secure these rights." Not legislate them out of existence.

A nativity display on government property reminds us that all humans have unalienable rights- rights which cannot legitimately be taken away- because these rights come from God. A nativity display celebrates the source of our rights and reminds our government officials that it is their duty to help secure these rights. After all isn’t Christmas supposed to remind us that God sent His Son to earth as a baby in order to reconcile God with man?  Immanuel God with us. A creche is a visible reminder of what Christmas is all about. And it is for that reason the Freedom from Religion Foundation and the American Civil Liberties Union are so against their public display.

 

These organizations, along with others, want to remove any public reminder of who is the actual granter of our freedom.

 

In addition, a nativity scene on government property reminds us that we are a republic, not a democracy. Our republic acknowledges God as the source of our unchangeable rights.This is codified in our founding documents. What those who are opposed to acknowledging God as the source of our liberties are trying to do is remake America into something the founders never intended. A democracy. A democracy is vastly different from a republic. The rights granted in a democracy are determined not by God, but by the ever-changing opinions of the majority of mankind. 
You see then the importance of the need for a constant reminder of who is actually in charge of our lives.

Ultimately, the present battle waged by the FFRF and ACLU is a battle over who gets to be God. Who will be acknowledged as the source of our rights? Will it be God, or will it be man?

 

Given the nation’s present woes and injustices, it is altogether fitting that nativity displays remain in the public arena as a guiding light and reminder to all of the source of our freedoms.

 

Unless of course you think it is far better that government should decide what RIGHTS to grant.

Vermont’s Giving Up On Single-Payer Health Care Over Ballooning Costs


Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin is canceling his dream plan to create a single-payer health system in the state, he announced Wednesday.

Tax hikes required to pay for the system would include a 11.5 percent payroll tax as well as an additional income tax ranging all the way up to 9.5 percent. Shumlin admitted that in the current climate, such a precipitous hike would be disastrous for Vermont’s economy.

 

This is the common problem with all these social programs. Forcing other people to pay for another’s personal responsibilities, by funneling money through government bureaucracies creates unaccountability which leads to cost over-runs and waste, fraud and abuse. When a person has a personal stake in his or her financial well-being he or she is more likely to consider cost-saving methods.

 

The state had been anticipating $267 million in federal funding to revamp its system, courtesy of a 2013 Obamacare waiver — but the current estimate has fallen to $106 million.

 

In other words the state was hoping the rest of the country would pay for this goofy idea.

 

Vermont also overestimated by $150 million in federal Medicaid funding. But beyond federal funding, the report also admits that the single-payer system won’t save money as Vermont officials had planned.

 

This is the problem with Obamacare, it does nothing to stem the rising cost of health care, but it was never intended to do so. The entire purpose of Obamacare and all the other failed social programs is to garner more control over an individuals personal choices and freedoms. To regulate the citizen to subject status whereby putting a central authority in charge of all their individual decisions. We the people become wards of the state.

 

That is not what I want for my children what say you?
