When the Intolerant Ask for Tolerance

Whoever isn’t against us is for us. Mark 9:40 (GW)

Seems like a contradiction doesn’t it? How can someone who is intolerant to your beliefs ask you to be tolerant of theirs? How can you allow yourself to be bullied into thinking that someone who does not tolerate you can be reasoned with or trusted? It is their desire to change your belief to theirs not learn about yours. If past actions speaks volumes then unless those past actions are condemned by the person or persons who committed them how is it that all of a sudden they are exonerated? In other words if they are against us how can they be for us?

A lot has been written and discussed about the proposed Muslim Mosque being planned near ground zero in New York City. The one side says that it is an outreach or an attempt to form better relations between us and them. The other side says that it is an abomination to the memory of those who were slaughtered on 9-11 and of course there are varying opinions between these two sides.

Common sense dictates that if your intention is to build a bridge to mend harmful relationships you do not poke the eye of the person you are trying to build a bridge to. If the real intent of this “mosque” was to mend the wound caused by 9-11 then why are they so intent on causing unrest in the very people they intend to reach out to?

In my opinion, the best thing those proposing this mosque could do is use the money slated for this eyesore to pay the victims families for the horror they had to endure as a result of adherents to their religion. Building a mosque only honors the Muslim religion and does nothing for those who suffered at the hands of that religion.

Someone stated the site is to be used more ‘as a cultural center rather than a religious facility, to help to heal some of the wounds caused by a handful of fanatics.’ After all one person concludes, “We’ve mended fences with the citizens of Japan, and we can do the same with Muslims.”

A cultural center could be built by the city and not by some “secret” Muslim backed group if the intent was to educate the people. I do not think the people of New York City need anyone telling them anything about 9-11! They lived through it. In fact the people of New York are telling anyone who will listen that this Mosque is a bad idea! Why aren’t their views considered in the debate. They are simply dismissed as intolerant or bigoted.

As far as mending fences with Japan we did that without building a Shinto center honoring Emperor Hirohito at Pearl Harbor.

There would have to be a change of attitude toward us before I would consider changing my attitude toward radical Muslims. After all they declared ‘jihad’ on us and as far as I know that has not changed. If they are seeking tolerance from us then they need to be tolerant of us. Since Islam has not redacted it’s stance toward us, and it considers America to be the “Great Satan” then personally I do not see why we need to turn a blind eye to this obvious “in your face” symbol of intolerance. They desire for us to accommodate them after they have proven their distaste for America and our way of life. Didn’t 9-11 teach us anything?

Granted there are many American Muslims in our nation who love this nation and who are quite happy living here. There are many who have assimilated into the American lifestyle and have adapted to our ways. However the Inman responsible for the Cordoba project in New York does not happen to be one of these.

I know this sounds harsh but I am offended that anyone would even try to justify this whole absurd idea that a Mosque is a fitting symbol for mending fences at “ground zero.” It is a slap in the face! If no one else will say it then I will. No Mosque, no way, no how, for no reason! I learned all I needed to learn about radical Muslims on 9-11 and since we are still at war with adherents to that religion in Afghanistan and to a lessor degree in Iraq this whole mosque thing makes no sense to me. This is however just a view from the nest.

But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)

President Returning to Childhood Muslim Faith?

I have long contended that Obama was a Muslim sympathizer but perhaps it goes deeper. Could it be that our current President is returning to his childhood faith? Remember he did go to a Muslim school. So congratulations for electing the first undocumented Muslim leader Barrack Hussein Obama.

President Obama will host an iftar — the special evening meal
observed during Ramadan — on Friday night in the White House dining
room.

Obama participated in a similar gathering last year (shown here).

Celebrations
like iftar dinners “remind us of the principles that we hold in common,
and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the
dignity of all human beings,” Obama wrote in a statement Wednesday.

“Ramadan
is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial
equality … a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and
that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our
country.”

The Truth of Sharia Law Exposed

Jerusalem, Dome of the Rock
Image via Wikipedia

Truth be told, Islam is only a religion of Peace when all other belief systems have been annihilated. The very tenets of Islam dictate everything about a person’s life. It is a religion of totalitarianism, were forced adherence trumps freedom of religion. The only religion you are free to practice under Sharia law is Islam. All other belief systems are considered apostate and must be eradicated from the planet.

There is no such thing as religious tolerance under Sharia law, because the only religion that Sharia law tolerates is Islam. This story exposes us to three real life examples of people who chose a different path besides Islam who were met not with tolerance but intolerance and death threats.

As Christians we need to understand that not all religions are created equal, in fact there is only one way to find peace and harmony in the world and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ and the Gospel of the Kingdom of God preached by Jesus himself.

AUSTRALIA

(ANS) In 1980, Egypt amended its constitution to elevate Sharia (Islamic law) as “the principal source of legislation”. This provision — which is now common in Muslim constitutions, including the new constitutions of Afghanistan and Iraq — renders constitutional guarantees of religious liberty and equality before the law illusory. For Sharia’s principal aim concerning religious liberty, is to eradicate apostasy (rejection of Islam) through the elimination of fitna (anything that could tempt a Muslim to reject Islam) and the establishment of dhimmitude (the humiliation and subjugation of Jews and Christians as second class citizens; crippling systematic discrimination; violent religious apartheid). There is no religious liberty in Islam, for Islam survives as religious totalitarianism that refuses rejection.

In Egypt, as in virtually all Muslim states, a person’s official religion is displayed on their identity card. According to Sharia, every child born to a Muslim father is deemed Muslim from birth. According to Sharia, a Muslim woman is only permitted to marry a Muslim man. (NOTE: This is the main reason why Christian men convert to Islam, and why female converts to Christianity will risk life and liberty to secure a falsified/illegal ID, for without a Christian ID they cannot marry a Christian.)

If a Christian father converts to Islam (as some do for any number of pragmatic reasons, such as a desire for a Muslim wife or a better job), his Christian children are automatically deemed Muslim. They have no say in this and may not apostasise: i.e. return to Christianity. If a Muslim parent converts to Christianity they automatically lose custody of their children.

Pass the Salt

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men” (Matt. 5:13).

Snow Scenes in Falls Church

Well winter has finally arrived in  Western Pennsylvania. This morning as I traveled to church, or slid along the frozen roadway, I came to a short hill along which several cars where ditched along the sides. I knew from experience, continuing along this route would not be wise. I slowed to a stop and decided on my next move. I watched as a few cars passed the ditched vehicles with caution and determined that I could move forward rather slowly and find a nice place along the berm of the road to park until the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDot) could salt the roadway.

I no sooner pulled off the road when my cell phone began to ring with messages from the church family asking how I was and how the roads where. I told them I was stopped along the road awaiting the arrival of the salt truck. Before long the phone rang again and the message this time was church was canceled and there was no need to continue on to church.

Okay at least I did not have to worry about getting to the church on time. But here I sat along the roadway awaiting the arrival of a salt truck.

Although the mixture of salty brine and de-icer wrecks havoc on a car’s finish, driving in winter in the northeast would be almost impossible without this wintertime road treatment. In fact the only time anyone wishes to be behind a slow moving salt truck, is when the roadways are hazardous and the driver knows that the salt solution being applied to the roadway is going to make their journey onward much safer. So they dutifully follow slowly behind the salt spreader, thankful for it’s arrival.

It was less than twenty minutes when the salt truck had arrived. I quickly fell in behind the truck and headed back toward home. The assurance of knowing the roadway beneath my wheels had been treated made the return trip less stressful. The closer I got to home the better the road surface became. Finally, back home, I was thankful that I was not involved in an accident and that no one was hurt along the stretch of highway I had traveled.

Anyone who lives in the frozen Northeast knows all too well the importance of proper road maintenance. We are very mindful of the road conditions once wintertime sets in. Our tax dollars are well spent in stockpiling the road crew’s depots with plenty of road salt. That is one expense I gladly pay for.

Salt’s Attributes

A salt mill for sea salt.

Salt has many useful purposes. For example did you know salt is essential for muscle movement, including that of the heart. It’s necessary for the digestive tract to function properly –crucial for the transmission of messages by the nerve cells, and regulated osmotic pressure and the movement of fluid to and from the cell. Salt is found in blood, sweat, and tears. Hotter climates increase the need for salt consumption. Chronic deprivation of salt causes loss of weight, loss of appetite, nausea, muscular cramps and even stunts growth.

In the food industry, it is used in flavoring and seasoning, pickling, canning, preserving, baking, dairying, curing meat and fish, and processing flour and other foods. Salt is a binder, a texturizer, and a fermentation control agent. Other useful applications include oil well drilling, and fertilizing!

And of course when applied to the roadways salt:

· Melts ice and snow

· Gives traction

· Leaves behind a residue

· Provides safe passage on the highways where applied

· Long lasting

· Proven to work at even very low temperatures

· Goes to work as soon as it is applied

So as you see salt has many useful purposes. However if salt looses those useful properties, then it becomes good for nothing.

Faith in Christ has much the same attributes as road salt, when you think about it a little. I mean faith, when applied to a life sliding along the slippery slope of life’s byways, provides sure-footedness, safe passage, has long lasting effects (it is eternal), is proven to work under the worst circumstances, starts to work as soon as it is applied, melts the sin hardened heart and thaws the coldest sin sick soul, and leaves behind evidence of it being applied to a life.

Four Horsemen of Apocalypse, by Viktor Vasnets...
Image via Wikipedia

There are four “modern horsemen of the apocalypse,” according to Dr. Richard Land in remarks delivered to the annual Southern Baptist Convention in Indianapolis, and they are “riding forth to wreak havoc and destruction in our society.” Land listed the four as the denial of the sanctity of human life, the rise of hardcore Internet pornography, the radical homosexual agenda’s attempt to undermine marriage, and radical Islamic jihadist.

The inactive, rudderless Church

If the church of Jesus Christ, whose congregations number in the hundreds of millions in America, was doing what it was supposed to be doing (“… created in Christ Jesus to do good works”), a whole host of problems would be taken care of in short order.  Indeed, instead of focusing on the four horsemen of the apocalypse, we may do well to concentrate heaviest on the salt supply.  An inactive and ineffective church, ignoring the call to be holy, is as bad as a culture can hope for.  Faith used only within the confines of worship but remains unreleased into the world, is really not faith at all.

Let’s face it, what good is a supply-yard full of salt, if there are no trucks to spread it on dangerous roadways? What good does a truck load of salt do a stranded motorist if the salt never gets applied to the roadway they are traveling? What good does the gospel do confined within the supply yard of the local church if it never gets carried outside to be applied to slippery byways of life? What good is a full salt shaker if it only sits on the tabletop and is never used?

Although there may be a plentiful supply of salt in the world, there seems to be a shortage of salt spreaders.

When the church isn’t the salt of the earth or the light of the world, disaster awaits.

But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)

Sometimes What is is What is: A social Commentary

Insight from the Journey across the Sky

By Allen Scott

Good people do the good things that are in them. But evil people do the evil things that are in them. Matt 12:35 (GW)–

Investigators searched on Friday for the motive behind a mass shooting at a sprawling U.S. Army base in Texas, in which an Army psychiatrist trained to treat war wounded is suspected of killing 13 people.

The suspected gunman, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim born in the United States of immigrant parents, was shot four times by police, a base spokesman said. He was unconscious but in stable condition.

The Army declined to discuss possible motives while the investigation was under way. “We have to understand what caused the suspect to act in the way that he did,” Army Secretary John McHugh said after observing a moment of silence at the base. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091107/ts_nm/us_texas_shooting

And thus the speculation begins. Was he suffering from Post Traumatic Stress disorder, an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat. Or could it be that Hasan was an Islamic terrorist, acting out a personal jihad? Perhaps he was emotionally disturbed. Perhaps there is a simpler explanation.

Good people do good things and evil people do evil things. Yes that’s right there are evil people in the world. Because of the effects of sin in the world the capacity for evil greatly increases as more and more of the world is removed from the saving grace of the gospel of Jesus Christ. When the good news of the renewing effects of the Gospel is replaced with some other religion or teaching then there is no help for a sin-sick heart. There remains therefore no hope for those who are found under the influence of the evil within. Being left to their own devises they continue in their evil inclinations.

The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Gen 6:5 (ESV)–

A good-for-nothing man is an evil-doer; he goes on his way causing trouble with false words; His mind is ever designing evil: he lets loose violent acts. Prov 6:12 & 14 (BBE)

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, the taking of life, broken faith between the married, unclean desires of the flesh, taking of property, false witness, bitter words: Matt 15:19 (BBE)–

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who can understand it? Jer 17:9 (RSV)–

There is hope however, if we acknowledge our evil heart with it’s evil intentions and pray for God to deliver us from evil, and lead us not into temptation.

And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Matt 6:13 (RSV)–

In order to free us from this present evil world, Christ took the punishment for our sins, because that was what our God and Father wanted Gal 1:4 (GW)–

The world is looking for answers. Inquiring minds want to know why. Those who were victimized by evil want to understand how this could happen. Why is there evil in the world? Simply because man is evil and desperately wicked and in need of a savior which is Christ the Lord. Without the preaching of the gospel there is no hope of eradicating evil from the heart of man. And as long as there is evil in the heart of man and man refuses to ask for a “new heart” from God then there will be more Fort Hoods and similar incidents until evil is eradicated from the world through the return of Christ as final arbiter and judge.

And [how you] look forward to and await the coming of His Son from heaven, Whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, Who personally rescues and delivers us out of and from the wrath [bringing punishment] which is coming [upon the impenitent] and draws us to Himself [ investing us with all the privileges and rewards of the new life in Christ, the Messiah]. 1 Thess 1:10 (AMP)–

Make a clean heart in me, O God; give me a right spirit again. Psalms 51:10 (BBE)–

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Rev 21:1-4 (NKJV)–

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; and in that day the heavens will be rolled up with a great noise, and the substance of the earth will be changed by violent heat, and the world and everything in it will be burned up. Seeing then that all these things are coming to such an end, what sort of persons is it right for you to be, in all holy behaviour and righteousness, Looking for and truly desiring the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will come to an end through fire, and the substance of the earth will be changed by the great heat? But having faith in his word, we are looking for a new heaven and a new earth, which will be the resting-place of righteousness. For this reason, my loved ones, as you are looking for these things, take great care that when he comes you may be in peace before him, free from sin and every evil thing. 2 Peter 3:10-14 (BBE)–

I saw a large, white throne and the one who was sitting on it. The earth and the sky fled from his presence, but no place was found for them. I saw the dead, both important and unimportant people, standing in front of the throne. Books were opened, including the Book of Life. The dead were judged on the basis of what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up its dead. Death and hell gave up their dead. People were judged based on what they had done. Death and hell were thrown into the fiery lake. (The fiery lake is the second death.) Those whose names were not found in the Book of Life were thrown into the fiery lake. Rev 20:11-15 (GW)–

Yes America sometimes it really is what it is, evil, wickedness, sin. Let us call sin sin and evil evil. Let us not attempt to explain away the obvious effects of sin in the world. Sin will increase until it becomes exceedingly sinful. In other words, it is going to get worse before it can get better. And it will get worse so that even those who today are scrambling to try to explain away this evil will have to say, indeed it is what it is evil.

Evil and false men will become worse and worse, using deceit and themselves overcome by deceit. 2 Tim 3:13 (BBE)–

So instead of turning to psychology and science. Instead of looking to each other for reason and understand, why not look to the redeemer and ask Him to redeem you from the effects of sin and wickedness? Ask Jesus to save you from yourself and pray for your neighbors so they too can be rescued from the evil effects of sin. Until we all come to the full understanding of God’s love through Christ Jesus there can be no hope of peace on earth and good will toward men. There is no other name under heaven whereby man can be rescued from the evil of sin. It is what it is. And this is a view from the nest.

But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)
