As our young people continue to look more and more toward celebrities as role models what have we been offered as examples of young role model behavior?

Both Miss America and Miss Nevada had their reigns tarnished with reports of bad behavior. How many of us have heard of the failings of Lindsay Lohan? Or Britney Spears night out, panties optional affair? Or the reports of Paris Hilton and her one-time side kick Nicole Ritchie’s continued misdeeds? All these actions are perhaps even more appauling than Janet Jackson’s infamous Superbowl half time wardrobe malfunction. Yet it seems the more these celebs exhibit lewd and raucous behavior the more their popularity grows. One commentary even wrote that the misdeeds of Miss Nevada would probably land her a lucrative career.

Although these young starlets have demonstrated less than lady like behavior let us not forget about their equally awful male counterparts who have also shown less than gentlemanly behavior. But it is to the ladies that I address these comments today, for I am lamenting the loss of innocence displayed so very often in these modern days. Our young ladies are acting like their male counterparts in lewd and lascivious behavior and seeming to relish in it. This is sad. A society that demeans the beauty of a woman will end up loosing value for all things fine and elegant. These ladies who voluntarily demonstrate bad behavior only heightens the disrespect of their gender by the boorish male population. Peddlers of filth and depravity relish these celebs who flaunt loose morals and demonstrate lewd behavior. Our society has even rewarded this kind of behavior handsomely by putting a stamp of approval on this unladylike activity.

In our not too distant past, before the main streaming of the “Playboy” culture, this kind of behavior was frowned upon and any self-respecting lady would not engage in it. This type of public display of lewd actions was quickly rebuked with jeers and disdain, today however; the reverse seems to be holding true, ladies engaging in such activity are being applauded and encourage to continue the downward spiral of even more shocking and lewd behavior. I for one find it demeaning to the lady and unattractive.

Below you will find 2006’s short list for the wall of shame. LADIES please try harder in 2007 to show some self-respect and moral constraint. Keep your clothes on and let your inner beauty show forth. Our young ladies are watching you. Let’s try to show forth a far better way.
