To listen to modern day liberals without Government run welfare our society would not care for its own. However a look at history reveals just the opposite. In fact many more minorities were provided with much better care than under the current government run program. So once again minorities and children are hurt the most by centralized welfare redistribution.

Many people think life without the welfare state would be chaos, and nobody would help support the less fortunate. A little known fact is people found innovative ways of supporting each other before the welfare state existed. One of the most important of these ways was the mutual-aid society.

The rise to welfare came after government regulation and interference in these  mutual-aid societie’s health care and social care programs. In fact many ‘mutual-aid societies"organizations ran medical centers which provided quality, affordable health care to members and non-members alike.

Mutual aid, also known as fraternalism, refers to social organizations that gathered dues and paid benefits to members facing hardship. There was a "great stigma" attached to accepting government aid during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Mutual aid, on the other hand, did not carry the same stigma. It was based on reciprocity: today’s mutual-aid recipient could be tomorrow’s donor, and vice versa. Mutual aid was particularly popular among the poor and the working class.

Although mutual-aid societies operated smoothly for many years their demise was inevitable. Many special interets groups had more than enough motives to stop or hinder the popularity of these private mutual-aid societies and lobbied lawmakers to pass legislation that adversely affected these fraternal organizations.

One of the biggest opponnents was the American Medical Association which gained control of the licensing of medical schools where-by they were able to pick and choose which medical schools they would deem acceptable (those which supported the AMA got favorable ratings) and the result was a 51% decline in medical schools which produced a doctor shortage which caused the cost of medical care to increase. This made it impractical for mutual-aid societies to retain the services of a doctor. In addition to licensing medical schools the AMA’s medical boards threatened the licenses of many doctors who would practice lodge medicine. Thereby monopolizing the medical field. This was the beginning of the end of mutual-aid.

Although millions of Americans are still members of fraternal societies such as the Masons or Oddfellows, the organizations no longer have the importance in society that they once did. The history of fraternalism serves as a reminder of the power of human cooperation in a free society.

Insight from the Journey across the Sky

All creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal who his children are. Creation was subjected to frustration but not by its own choice. The one who subjected it to frustration did so in the hope that it would also be set free from slavery to decay in order to share the glorious freedom that the children of God will have. We know that all creation has been groaning with the pains of childbirth up to the present time.Romans 8:19-22 (GW)

For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:9-10 (NKJV)

Earth Day Flag

Today is Earth Day, and I am hard pressed not to scream at the top of my lungs ENOUGH already! Last night my favorite show American Idol was overrun with environmentalist all trotting out the poor and sickly around the world with pleas for help. THROW them a life line they ask, while showing us pictures of poor souls dying from Malaria. The report goes on to say how many children are affected by this deadly disease and I want to scream… KILL THE MOSQUITOES and the disease with stop. BUT no because of Environmental policies enacted years ago these poor souls are allowed to die because the EPA decided that DDT was hazardous to birds. DDT is very effective at wiping out mosquito populations which would cut way down on the spread of malaria, HEY it worked in the United States didn’t it?

OH NO instead every year we will run ads showing sick kids dying of malaria and ask for money for mosquito nets. To an environmentalist I guess this makes sense. To a thinking caring individual this is lunacy. Get to the source of the problem and eradicate it to protect the population. But no environmentalists would rather kill the population in order to save the planet. It would appear to me the environmentalist sees human beings as the pollutant that should be eliminated from the earth in order for the earth to return to it’s pristine state. There is nothing loving or caring about this approach. It would be far more loving to kill the mosquitoes than to watch loved ones die.

To add insult to injury, the segment addressing the aids problem in Africa was showcased by Ellen Degeneres and Annie Lennox (somewhat of a pop icon for the LBTG community). Annie did her segment while wearing an HIV Positive tee-shirt. Although not HIV positive herself she says she dons the apparel to highlight AIDS awareness. Annie got her iconic status from her earlier days with the Eurythmics when she would cross dress to protest the male dominance of the rock scene, the symbolism stuck. Perhaps the gay culture would be better served if she wore a Jesus saved me and he can save you too tee-shirt?

And then there is the United Nations Foundation promoting programs to help Haiti and to fight climate change and promote peace. But a recent report cited the UN with wasting 2/3rds of aide money feathering their own nests instead of tending to the needs of those they are given money to aide. But that did not stop them from being on Idol and asking America for more money.

Then there is the EPA asking us to RECYCLE all the time and yet one of their former policy administrators says that sometimes it just does not make GOOD SENSE to recycle everything, because the costs to the environment of recycling is worse than just disposing of it. Like any other government agency the EPA has to invent ways to remain relevant and thusly a needed organization. They can not admit that their work is done so they need to continue to come up with pollutants and ways to battle them. So now they are on to man-made global warming and Co2 as a pollutant and let us not forget ’green energy’. Who ever would have thought the day would come when BREATHING was damaging the earth.

The ’green’ gospel

The whole ’GREEN MOVEMENT’ has become a religion in and of itself most of which is based on secular humanistic teachings and ideologies. This religion has worship and sacrifice and rewards and punishments. There are rituals to follow and creeds to recite. There are even offerings collected as last nights American Idol demonstrated.

Now I am all for helping my neighbor, but by helping I just do not want to help them remain alive in their situation. I want to see their situation change for the better, therefore it is necessary to tackle the bigger issues surrounding their lot in life. Most of the aid given to these countries is like throwing a rescue ring to a drowning man and leaving him in the water.

The founder of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation says churches should be wary of Earth Day environmentalism. The Rev. Calvin Beisner tells The Associated Press that while it is laudable to care for God’s creation, that should never become another “gospel” that diverts churches’ focus from preaching salvation in Jesus Christ. To this a add an resounding AMEN!

The earth has been placed under a curse of sin and death ever since Adam disobeyed God in the garden. And until the time comes for the earth to be remade it will continue under this curse. In spite of all this there are still bright spots of hope. America and other wealthy nations are leading the way in setting an example that prosperity, and not government aid, is the best defense against environmental hazards. By helping a people out of poverty we elevate them to better care for themselves. Aiding them in poverty only adds to their helplessness. We need to give them a leg up and not simply a hand out.

To really save the earth however, we need to proclaim the gospel to every living creature. It is the power of the Gospel that is able to transform lives and make better citizens. So for earth day I say send missionaries and not money, preach the gospel of peace and not green peace, host prayer-a-thons instead of telethons and in so doing you can make a significant difference in the lives of others less fortunate then yourself. By giving them the light of life and the hope of eternity, you will have saved a soul and thus helped save the planet. Have a truly blessed Earth Day.

But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)

Demonic Rats who voted for the take over of our freedoms in the guise of a health care bill in which taxpayer funds are permitted to kill babies. What an abomination!!

All these congress persons need to be booted from office. If this were Honduras the National Guard would be summoned by the Supreme Court to haul off all these LAW BREAKERS at gun point. Now that is what I would love to see. The American citizens making a CITIZENS arrest of all these law breakers backed by the governors of Maryland, and Virginia who summon the National Guard to stand with the citizenry to fight against all enemies foreign or DOMESTIC.

As for the ones who voted No if they wish to stay in congress then they need to SWITCH parties and take a stand with the Republicans and ROLL BACK this atrocity masquerading as a health care bill. By changing parties and taking a stand against this bill they would be showing to all AMERICA that they really do have principles, otherwise how else are we really going to know why they voted no?

3 Children are an inheritance from the Lord. They are a reward from him.
4 The children born to a man when he is young are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.
5 Blessed is the man who has filled his quiver with them. He will not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the city gate.
Psalms 127:3-5Open Link in New Window (GW)

The  environmentalist movement is anti-human life as this article proves. For anyone to think that regulating a man’s family by denying them the basic  human right to reproduce is insane. To think that trees and lakes, and birds and bees take precedence over human life is appalling. And yet this idea of population control is growing more pervasive throughout the environmental movement. We see it’s tentacles extended in our own country as congress debates their HEALTH CARE take-over legislation. The idea that there would be public policy implemented to curtail or control costs of providing health care to the sick based upon some arbitrary assessment as to life value ludicrous. AND YET it is a reality.

The bible states that children are an inheritance from the Lord and a people are blessed by them, and yet this anti-Christ religion of environmentalism teaches just the opposite.

In a sane world this whole notion of killing babies in order to provide a BETTER LIFE would be called what it is INSANE.

This writer and the whole environmentalist movement needs to be rewarded the DODO bird award for their loony ideas.

This one certainly has flown over the cuckoo’s nest.

The “inconvenient truth” overhanging the UN’s Copenhagen conference is not that the climate is warming or cooling, but that humans are overpopulating the world.
A planetary law, such as China’s one-child policy, is the only way to reverse the disastrous global birthrate currently, which is one million births every four days.

Ironically, China, despite its dirty coal plants, is the world's leader in terms of fashioning policy to combat environmental degradation, thanks to its one-child-only edict.
Ironically, China, despite its dirty coal plants, is the world’s leader in terms of fashioning policy to combat environmental degradation, thanks to its one-child-only edict.
The intelligence behind this is the following:
-If only one child per female was born as of now, the world’s population would drop from its current 6.5 billion to 5.5 billion by 2050, according to a study done for scientific academy Vienna Institute of Demography.
-Doing nothing, by contrast, will result in an unsustainable population of nine billion by 2050.
The only fix is if all countries drastically reduce their populations, clean up their messes and impose mandatory conservation measures.

This comes from an AP story which up to now has mostly been in the tank for Obama. However even a stopped clock is right twice a day so here is one of those times even AP got it right.

AP FACT CHECK from the OBAMA speech on July 22, 2009 in an article titled:

FACT CHECK: Obama’s health care claims adrift?

WASHINGTON - JULY 24: U.S. President Barack ...
Image by Getty Images via Daylife

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama‘s assertion Wednesday that government will stay out of health care decisions in an overhauled system is hard to square with the proposals coming out of Congress and with his own rhetoric.

Even now, nearly half the costs of health care in the U.S. are paid for by government at all levels. Federal authority would only grow under any proposal in play.

A look at some of Obama’s claims in his prime-time news conference:

__

OBAMA: “We already have rough agreement” on some aspects of what a health care overhaul should involve, and one is: “It will keep government out of health care decisions, giving you the option to keep your insurance if you’re happy with it.”

THE FACTS: In House legislation, a commission appointed by the government would determine what is and isn’t covered by insurance plans offered in a new purchasing pool, including a plan sponsored by the government. The bill also holds out the possibility that, over time, those standards could be imposed on all private insurance plans, not just the ones in the pool.

Indeed, Obama went on to lay out other principles of reform that plainly show the government making key decisions in health care. He said insurance companies would be barred from dropping coverage when someone gets too sick, limits would be set on out-of-pocket expenses, and preventive care such as checkups and mammograms would be covered.

It’s true that people would not be forced to give up a private plan and go with a public one. The question is whether all of those private plans would still be in place if the government entered the marketplace in a bigger way.

He addressed some of the nuances under questioning. “Can I guarantee that there are going to be no changes in the health care delivery system?” he said. “No. The whole point of this is to try to encourage changes that work for the American people and make them healthier.”

He acknowledged then that the “government already is making some of these decisions.”

___

OBAMA: “I have also pledged that health insurance reform will not add to our deficit over the next decade, and I mean it.”

THE FACTS: The president has said repeatedly that he wants “deficit-neutral” health care legislation, meaning that every dollar increase in cost is met with a dollar of new revenue or a dollar of savings. But some things are more neutral than others. White House Budget Director Peter Orszag told reporters this week that the promise does not apply to proposed spending of about $245 billion over the next decade to increase fees for doctors serving Medicare patients. Democrats and the Obama administration argue that the extra payment, designed to prevent a scheduled cut of about 21 percent in doctor fees, already was part of the administration’s policy, with or without a health care overhaul.

Beyond that, budget experts have warned about various accounting gimmicks that can mask true burdens on the deficit. The bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget lists a variety of them, including back-loading the heaviest costs at the end of the 10-year period and beyond.

___

OBAMA: “You haven’t seen me out there blaming the Republicans.”

THE FACTS: Obama did so in his opening statement, saying, “I’ve heard that one Republican strategist told his party that even though they may want to compromise, it’s better politics to ‘go for the kill.’ Another Republican senator said that defeating health reform is about ‘breaking’ me.”

___

OBAMA: “I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that. But I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home, and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there’s a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.”

THE FACTS: The facts are in dispute between black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the white police sergeant who arrested him at his Cambridge, Mass., home when officers went there to investigate a reported break-in. But this much is clear: Gates wasn’t arrested for being in his own home, as Obama implies, but for allegedly being belligerent when the sergeant demanded his identification. The president did mention that the professor was charged with disorderly conduct. Charges were dropped.

___

OBAMA: “If we had done nothing, if you had the same old budget as opposed to the changes we made in our budget, you’d have a $9.3 trillion deficit over the next 10 years. Because of the changes we’ve made, it’s going to be $7.1 trillion.”

THE FACTS: Obama’s numbers are based on figures compiled by his own budget office. But they rely on assumptions about economic growth that some economists find too optimistic. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, in its own analysis of the president’s budget numbers, concluded that the cumulative deficit over the next decade would be $9.1 trillion.
