Once again proof socialism does not work because sooner or later you run out of other peoples money to redistribute. The best way to fight Unemployment is to allow people to go to work not pay them to stay home. And of course making a fertile environment for job creation leads to more employment which means less people unemployed. The federal government has never created one private sector job, all they can do is hinder their creation by continually taking money out of the private sector to support public sector largesse.

As of this summer, unemployment insurance trust funds in 30 states were insolvent.

The Department of Labor expects that as many as 40 states will require federal loans for unemployment insurance in fiscal 2013, with borrowing totaling $93 billion.

Extended unemployment insurance benefits since July 2008 has exceeded $131 billion, and the net federal spending in this area far exceeds the Greek bailout.

New jobs would have provided indirect but immediate assistance to states’ unemployment insurance trust funds by reducing the number of unemployment claims and raising additional revenue with each new worker.

High unemployment claims drain trust funds, but rising numbers of the unemployed also decrease the number of workers for whom employers are paying into the funds. State collections in 2009 were 13 percent lower than pre-recession levels. This decline in collections combined with the heavy influx of unemployment claims completely emptied many states’ reserves.

Confusion in the Gulf

Some people shouted one thing while others shouted something else. The crowd was confused. Most of the people didn’t even know why they had come together. Acts 19:32 (GW)

It is BP’s problem some cry, no it is the Government’s problem cry others, while many claim  the problem is America’s addiction to oil. This one tries to out shout the other, while the average American citizen and especially those living in the Gulf region simply want the problem to be dealt with effectively and efficiently. Stop pointing fingers they cry and roll up your sleeves and get to work on finding a solution, quickly.

Confusion seems to be running the clean-up in the Gulf of Mexico. The whole scene is like watching an episode of the Keystone Kops in which the authorities are running in every direction and no one seems to have a clue on what to do.  The Keystone Kops make great movie comedy but a tragic display of leadership.

After our government claimed that we did not need or could not obtain larger ships to skim the Gulf oil spill, a giant-capacity skimming ship has arrived in U.S. waters.  Yet our government has us wondering whether it will permit the ship to join the cleanup effort.

The problem is not simply the Jones Act; it’s also that our Environmental Protection Agency may squelch the ability to use this giant ship.

The S. S. A-Whale is not like the mere 4,000-barrel-a-day vessels we’ve been using.  Its owners say this ship, a converted oil tanker, can gather 500,000 barrels a day.  By comparison, say the owners, the entire fleet our government has authorized for BP has only gathered 600,000 barrels—TOTAL—in the 70 days since the Deepwater Horizon explosion.  (NOTE:  500,000 barrels equals 21-million gallons.)

Adding insult to injury here is another report concerning the Dutch’s offer for help which came in 3 days after the spill occurred. Here we are 70 days and counting into this major oil spill and the situation goes from bad to worse.

The crisis and the chaos surrounding the Gulf oil spill makes a nice smoke screen to hide true aims and intentions behind. Although I can not say with absolute certainty I do believe the age old adage would apply here: “Actions speak louder than words”and Obama’s inaction shouts loud and clear his intentions. Of course Obama’s words have been pretty clear about exactly what he wants America to think about this oil spill. He would like very much for the population to grow extremely impatient with and angry at BP for this mess and their apparent lack of expedience in cleaning it up. All this gives Obama cover to enact even more of his freedom stealing agenda items with the help of his cronies in congress.

The arrogance and the wilful negligence of this administration is painfully obvious to anyone who cares to stop long enough to objectively assess the situation. I really do not care if BP is to blame or not for the cause of the spill. I do know that not everything that can be done is being done to clean up the mess. There will be plenty of time to point fingers and assess blame after we have done all we can to stop the spill and clean up the mess. All technologies, and all who are willing to help with the cleanup, should be engaged. If the Jones Act has not been revoked then it needs to be pronto. However all of this should have been decided on day one. All hands should already be on deck like Obama said they were.

The fact that this mess and the consequent inaction of the government has only gotten worse and not better proves that too much money and power is going to the federal government and it is time for states to assert their independence and act accordingly. Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida are the states affected the most by this disaster and they should be the ones coordinating the cleanup measure. If the federal government is to be involved at all it should be to make sure that the states are given all the resources they need and are free to act in their own best interests, which would be in the best interest of the country.

This is a view from the nest, what say you?

I am afraid these folks have way too much time on their hands and have too much tax money to spend. Suing McDonald’s to stop selling happy meals is just plain silly. And for that we are proud to award The Center for Science to PROMOTE LIBERAL PUBLIC Interest the DODO bird award. You guys deserve this because it is obvious you have flown over the cuckoos nest.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a liberal consumer advocacy organization, has announced it will sue McDonald’s unless the fast-food franchise stops using toys to market its “Happy Meals” to children.
“This morning, CSPI notified McDonald’s that we will file a lawsuit against the company unless it stops using toys to beguile young children,” said Executive Director Michael F. Jacobson, Ph.D., at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

“We contend that tempting kids with toys is unfair and deceptive both to kids who don’t understand the concept of advertising and to their parents who have to put up with their nagging children,” he said.

Study links Abortion for High Breast Cancer Risks

“It is criminal that the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) has covered up this risk for over a half century.”

(COLOMBO, Sri Lanka)—A new study out of Sri Lanka has found that women who had abortions more than tripled their risk of breast cancer.

The study focused on analyzing the association between the duration of breastfeeding and the risk of breast cancer. But the researchers also reported other “significant” risk factors for breast cancer, such as passive smoking and being post-menopausal. The highest of the reported risk factors was abortion.

The researchers found that among women who breastfed for between 12-23 months there was a 66.3% risk reduction in comparison to those who had never breastfed and those who breastfed for between 0 and 11 months. The risk reduction climbed to 87.4% for those who breastfed for 24-35 months and 94% among women who breastfed for 36-47 months.

More Taxpayer Money Slated For Teacher Unions

Why is it that teachers are a protected class of employee? This constant raping of the American taxpayer to keep a failed system alive is not what made this country great. The best way to improve our education system is to take the monopoly out of it and allow for serious competition. The better schools will survive while the failing schools will actually fail. Citizens should be able to shop for a quality education the same way they shop for any other product or service.

I have never been a strong advocate for institutionalized government-run education. I am a very strong advocate for home schooling or charter schools. Parents need to be more directly involved in their child’s education

Apparently $80 billion of stimulus funds for public education wasn’t enough. The Obama administration now says that the federal government should fork out $23 billion more in taxpayer money to save teaching jobs. If not, according to education Secretary Arne Duncan, we will see catastrophic teacher layoffs.

Before calling for a crisis and demanding more taxpayer money, it would be a good idea to look at the facts. First, from the $80 billion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), states received $49 billion in a portion of the act known as the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund. Of this $49 billion, states have only spent $28 billion. Why then is it necessary to pass another costly spending bill?

Furthermore, since (ARRA) passed, schools have continued to hire new staff, both teacher and non-teacher positions alike, with some schools creating entirely new jobs. Let’s take a look at some of the positions funded by the stimulus:
