Congress is out of control. There is no more denying this fact. While telling auto executives that they should live on $1 a year salaries these elected officials are raping the public coffers to line their own pockets.

The awful truth of all this is congress has these pay raises set on automatic pilot so they take effect without having to be voted on. These elected leaders know how unpopular a pay raise would be, especially when many of their constituents are loosing their own jobs, so they put this back door policy into effect so that action will have to be taken to STOP IT rather than allowing it to just go through.

A crumbling economy, more than 2 million constituents who
have lost their jobs this year, and congressional demands of CEOs to work for
free did not convince lawmakers to freeze their own pay.

Instead, they will get a $4,700 pay increase, amounting
to an additional $2.5 million that taxpayers will spend on congressional
salaries, and watchdog groups are not happy about it.

However, at 2.8 percent, the automatic raise that
lawmakers receive is only half as large as the 2009 cost of living adjustment
of Social Security recipients.

“Look at the way the economy is and how most people
aren’t counting on a holiday bonus or a pay raise — they’re just happy to have
gainful employment,” said Ellis. “But you have the lawmakers who are set up and
ready to get their next installment of a pay raise and go happily along their
way.”

Member raises are often characterized as examples of
wasteful spending, especially when many constituents and businesses in members’
districts are in financial despair.

Batteries Not Included

God, the God of Israel, is awe-inspiring in his holy place. He gives strength and power to his people. Thanks be to God! Psalms 68:35 (GW)

I do not know what I would do without batteries. I mean I need batteries! My watches, my various remote control devices, the alarm clock, the cell phone, the computer keyboard and mouse, the laptop, each of these devices require batteries to operate.

The only thing more prevalent in my house than batteries, are all the various power adaptors for my electronic devices. There is the TV, the satellite dish, the video recorder with the network adapter, and the amplifier for the surround sound. All these require a six socket wall adapter to plug them all in. Then there is the computer and all the plugs for all the peripheral attachments, the monitor, the speakers, the DVD drive, and the external hard drive.

I have about a dozen power adapters for Satellite radio and razors and rechargers for the cell phone. Even the home phone line needs to be plugged in. There is the network adapter and the wireless adapter for the cable modem and the list just goes on and on and on. How I wish for a wireless home. No more plugs to plug in.

I love the rechargeable batteries but I hate all their wall adapters. God forbid if you ever happen to misplace one, it really is no use trying one of the many others you have lying around because no two are alike. When it comes to power chargers one size certainly does not fit all.

Therefore you can imagine how delighted I was to find this hand-cranked flashlight a few months back. No batteries required and you do not have to plug it in to recharge it! All you have to do is turn the crank and you have light! I thought to myself, “This sounds like a good idea but will it actually work?”

We used to call it robbing Peter to pay Paul, now they call it Social Security. Politics surely does make for strange bed fellows don’t you think?

Clinton Library Received Large Foreign Contributions

Does anyone find this surprising? No wonder he kept it secret for so long.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has been nominated as secretary of State. If she is confirmed by the Senate, Bill Clinton will continue to release the names of donors to his foundation.
WASHINGTON — Former president Bill Clinton accepted tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments and Democratic donors with corporate and Hollywood ties to help build his non-profit foundation and presidential library, according to a list of contributors made public for the first time Thursday.

Saudi Arabia donated $10 million to $25 million, and Norway’s government contributed more than $5 million. Other large donors include director Steven Spielberg, the foundation of computer mogul Bill Gates and the charitable foundation of singer Barbra Streisand.

The contributor list shows gifts from a range of foreign governments, individuals and groups who could have a stake in American foreign policy.

The governments of Kuwait, Qatar and Oman each gave $1 million to $5million.

The Legend of the Friendly Beasts

There’s an old Christmas legend about the animals who shared the stable with the Christ child. Each animal bestowed a gift on Him. The legend says the animals in the stable gained the power of speech for that night.

Jesus, our brother, kind and good,
Was humbly born in a stable rude;
And the friendly beasts around Him stood.
Jesus, our brother, kind and good.

"I," said the Donkey, shaggy and brown,
"I carried His mother up hill and down;
I carried His mother to Bethlehem town."
"I," said the Donkey, shaggy and brown.

"I," said the Cow, all white and red,
"I gave Him my manger for His bed;
I gave Him my hay to pillow His head."
"I," said the Cow, all white and red.

"I," said the Sheep, with the curly horn,
"I gave Him my wool for His blanket warm;
He wore my coat on Christmas morn."
"I," said the Sheep, with the curly horn.
"I," said the Dove, from the rafters high,
"I cooed Him to sleep that He should not cry;
We cooed Him to sleep, my mate and I."
"I," said the Dove, from the rafters high.
Thus every beast by some glad spell,
In the stable dark was glad to tell
Of the gift he gave Emmanuel,
The gift he gave Emmanuel.
