WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama’s promise Thursday to work to “end our dependence” on Middle East oil within a decade may be good political rhetoric when Americans have been paying $4 a gallon at the gas pumps, but the goal likely would be difficult — perhaps impossible — to achieve and flies in the face of how global oil markets work.

The United States uses about 21 million barrels of oil products a day. Even if the United States cuts oil demand by about 10 percent, equivalent to Persian Gulf oil imports, it is likely to continue to rely on oil imports and make no distinction as to where it is pumped, energy experts say.

Obama’s pledge to cut dependents on foreign oil is a key element of his overall energy policy, which envisions aggressive development of alternative fuels and technologies to improve energy efficiency.

Fred Lucas presents John Voight: Barack Obama sowing socialist seeds in young people posted at Barack Obama, Fred has been submitting many articles to this blog carnival and I thought I would use this one because it does show the need for keeping watch over what our children are learning. They learn whatever is put before them so parents it is important that you teach your children in the ways you would like them to be taught and not rely on culture to do so.

ACLU trying to control public prayer

businessman prayingThe American Civil Liberties Union is asking the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to tell private citizens how and what they can pray before meetings of the Cobb County, Georgia, Board of Commissioners.

The ACLU actually suggested to the court that Cobb County officials be ordered to send letters to invited clergy telling them “not to invoke religious messages” in their opening prayers and the commissioners’ meetings.
This is religious bigotry; it’s anti-free speech; it’s everything that they’re supposed to be against. The idea that the ACLU would want the government to tell people how they should or should not pray is outrageous.”
the fact that the ACLU is trying to use the power of the government to tell people how to pray is just an incredible invasion of freedom, and [it] shows that they are not about freedom and liberty at all. They’re about oppression and trying to stamp out religious speech.”
I thought the ACLU sought to protect people from the overreaching government and discrimination against religion, race, or creed. I guess I was mistaken.The mission statement of the ACLU states:

Your First Amendment rightsfreedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press, and freedom of religion.

I wonder what changed?
