I’m sure you’ve seen an insect such as a fly struggling desperately to escape to the outside world through a closed window. He never gives up. His frenzied effort would be almost funny if it weren’t a life and death struggle. He backs off. flies into the glass head on, Crashes. backs off, flies into the glass head on again, and again, and again. He totally exhausts himself and drops dead on the windowsill. Little did he know he was doomed from the start.

Human nature is much like that common housefly. We have a tendency to want to rage against God constantly, while our lives are spinning out of control. We continue to raise our fists toward heaven and dare God to make His presence known, while not having a clue as to what a powerful force we are dealing with. I mean would you purposely enter into a lion’s cage and pick a fight with a hungry lion and have no protection from when that lion decides to attack? I mean if that lion wanted too, just one gulp would be all it would take to end your battle against him.

Knowing the nature of a lion, we are not quick to pick a fight with one. I guess we reason because God has not been quick to show retaliation we can hurl insults at Him unabated. Because God chooses to be long suffering toward insolent people he is much maligned. We stand and shake our fists at Him believing he is either not there, asleep at the wheel, non-caring or some other foolish notion.

Let’s take a look at a few of these arguments. If God does not exist then what is the use of shaking your fist at him? Is it because your own life is so out of control you have to blame someone or something for it? So you pick a non-existent deity to blame for your failures? If not, you really look foolish blaming someone who does not exist for your problems. Your problems obviously would be a result of your own decisions.

Salad Bar Christianity

This is just another example of a man-made god. Taking the parts we like from all religious practices and mixing them together to form a hodgepodge of beliefs that Jesus warned against. Jesus declared unashamedly that he was the way the truth and the life not just one of many.

Man loves to remake God into their own image, changing the absolute rightness of God for a rightness that suits each individual. The salad bar analogy works good here because the tendency of people is to take what they like and leave what they do not like. Most times it is the food that is best for us that we leave on the salad bar.

Religion today in the USA is a salad bar where people heap on upbeat beliefs they like and often leave the veggies — like strict doctrines — behind.

There are so many ways of seeing God, public policy expert Barry Kosmin says, that “the highest authority is now the lowest common denominator.”

“Americans believe in everything. It’s a spiritual salad bar,” says Rice University sociologist Michael Lindsay. Rather than religious leaders setting the cultural agenda, today, it’s Oprah Winfrey, he says.

“The impact of Oprah is seen throughout this survey. She uses the language of Bible and Christian traditions and yet includes other traditions to create a hodgepodge personalized faith. Exclusivism (one religion has the absolute and exclusive truth) has gotten a bad name in America today,” he says.

Michael addresses the “hidden things” by looking at a Hindu god good luck charm that Barack Obama carries around with him. I wonder how many “secret things” we carry around in our hearts that would make God point a finger and say: “What’s up with that?” This article should make us all think and remember that God said everything hidden will be uncovered and be sure your secret sins will find you out. You can keep nothing secret from God.

Allen in Fort Worth presents Can The Whos Hear Horton? posted at The Whited Sepulchre, saying, “here’s a parable from Dr. Seuss.” I loved the movie and enjoyed Allen’s post. Dr. Seuss was a childhood favorite and I guess some things just stick with you into adulthood. Nice job Allen.
