No Spin Cycle

Insight for your “Journey across the Sky”

A View from the Nest www.eagleviews.org

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8 (KJV)

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4:8 (KJV)

Better to be a poor person who has integrity than to be rich and double-dealing. Prov 28:6 (GW)

Maytag WasherThe old machine just could not handle the load anymore. It grew tired and unable to spin dry the clothes like it once did. There was no longer a spin cycle in that old machine. All it could do was agitate the clothes but it could not spin out the dirty water. What was left in the tub was dark and dingy. The machine had to either be fixed or replaced. I chose to replace it with a newer machine with several spin cycles.

In washing machines, spinning is a necessary function, in fact clothes could not be cleaned properly if there was no way to drain out the dirty water through a spin cycle. Gone are the days of the wringer washers manufactured by Maytag. In their place are the modern day spin cycle machines.

In the political and social realms however, a no spin cycle would be a welcome relief. Oh how I wish I could switch off the spin cycles and just let those news talking heads agitate one another. It would be nice to see the dirty laundry exactly as it is. DIRTY. But no, these slick politicians and public figureheads have invested heavily in spin cycles to make sure that all the dirty murky water gets stirred to the point that it is impossible to differentiate between clean and unclean, truth and untruth, honesty and dishonesty. I want to pull the plug on those spin machines and watch them sit there and idly rock back and forth, vacillating between two opinions but never arriving at any solid position. A constant stirring but never settling.

It is primary election time in Pennsylvania and to tell you the truth there is not one candidate on the ballot worth voting for. If you take away all the political spin and just look at what lies in the bottom of that old washing machine, I think we would all agree there is way too much dirty laundry lying around. He said, she said, they said, what I meant to say, back and forth it goes, stirring the water and going nowhere. Personally I do not need a politician telling me how to live my life, because to be perfectly honest, my life, in comparison to theirs, is pretty good. I would strongly suggest to all political wannabes to spend less time on the old spin cycle and more time on being sure you are wearing clean clothes to begin with. Let your yes mean yes and your no mean no. Speak clearly so that everyone can understand you so you will not need a spin cycle to sort it all out in the end.

How I wish for the “spin cycle” to end.

But those who are waiting for the Lord will have new strength; they will get wings like eagles: running, they will not be tired, and walking, they will have no weariness. Isaiah 40:31 (BBE)

Expelled the movie Expelled from public debate?

Could it be true that proponents of Darwinism are militant in their views? Could it be any opposition to this THEORY is being met with violence and censure? Who is more vocal about their religion anyway, the Darwinists or the Christian? Makes one scratch their head in wonderment.

As the pro-intelligent design documentary “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” launches full throttle into over 1,000 theaters this Friday, its producers are no doubt feeling a strong sense of anticipation and anxiety.
The film, which explores the existence of what it claims is an elitist scientific establishment dedicated to Darwinism and the silencing of all its critics, has generated fierce reactions and attacks from the moment of its conception, according to producers.
“Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed,” starring actor and former presidential speech writer Ben Stein, is an in-depth investigation of teachers, professors, and researchers who are mocked and threatened with expulsion by an elitist scientific establishment that punishes the scientific proponents of intelligent design because they reject some of the claims of Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Broken Homes breaking the economic bank

Perhaps we are not willing to look at the real cost of broken homes. Being a product of a broken home myself I can personally state the high price I had to pay as a result of being raised in a fatherless home. The emotional scars and damage caused by the harmful effects of a parent leaving were hard to overcome. I am unable to calculate the actual financial cost the broken home had on myself but I can say for a surety that it certainly had an ill effect on it.

Now I am not saying to anyone to stay in a dangerous relationship but too many marriages are destroyed for no other reason then selfishness and unforgiveness. It is no better for the Christian home than it is for the non-Christian household it would appear.

Perhaps we need to spend more time and energy on making ourselves better spouses than trying to fix our ‘better half’?

The Institute for American Values and the Georgia Family Council have just released a sobering study titled “The Taxpayer Cost of Divorce and Unwed Childbearing.” The study notes that while the debate on marriage usually focuses on its social, moral, and religious qualities, marriage is also an “economic institution.” It is a “powerful creator of human and social capital.”

Between 1970 and 2005, the percentage of children being raised in two-parent families dropped from 85 to 68 percent.

The principal causes of this drop were the high divorce rate and the increase in the number of out-of-wedlock births. While the number of divorces has declined slightly in recent years, the percentage of children born to unmarried mothers has continued to grow.

“Divorce and unwed childbearing create substantial public costs, paid by taxpayers.”
How much? A minimum of $112 billion a year.
in “increased taxpayer expenditures for antipoverty, criminal justice . . . education programs,” and lost tax revenues.

Churches Tackling Migration Issue

What should be the churches stance on “illegal” immigration? Should the church readily accept any and all comers regardless of national state or origin? Is it the duty of law abiding church citizen’s to police the ranks of their members new and old? Is immigration even an issue for the church to discuss?

Christian leaders from around the world discussed the issue of migration, its effect on the church, and how the church should respond to migrants this week during a conference held in Lebanon.

“Migration is a fact of life. It is as much an instinct to survive as it is an inevitable consequence of globalization,” declared participants of the Public Hearing on Migration and the Changing Ecclesial Landscape, April 15-16, in Beirut, Lebanon.

During discussions on how the church should deal with migrants, the general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia, said, “Welcoming the stranger is not optional for Christians. Nor is it conditional.”

“Migration is a courageous expression of an individual’s will to overcome adversity and live a better life,” Kid-arn said.

He promoted providing legal channels of migration and employment that meets national standards as the “most effective way to prevent trafficking.”
