A satirical image of Charles Darwin as an ape from 1871 reflects part of the social controversy over whether humans and apes share a common lineage.Image via Wikipedia

It would appear that for over 1500 years the debate has raged over the origin of life.”Natural Theology, published in 1802 by William Paley, discussed the evidence for design using the “inferred watchmaker” analogy. The majority of scientists at that time professed belief in a Creator, in one way or another. This was reflected in their studies. To some extent, design was assumed. “

“Evolution lacked a reasonable engine to drive biological change. When Charles Darwin published “The Origin of Species” in 1859, those who preferred evolution had a seemingly plausible mechanism to explain it – natural selection.”

“Almost 150 years later, the scientific community at large speaks of the “facts” of evolution. Those who propose non-natural causes for biologic effects are soon branded as “ignorant,” “superstitious,” or “closed-minded.” “

Some things never change…

Thousands of years ago, ancient Greeks and Romans considered the idea that life had been designed by some unknown force. At the same time, they wondered if life had progressed from “higher” or “lower” forms over time. Jump forward to today, and the same two questions are still at war. The intelligent design movement, unlike prior competitors to naturalism, represents a solid, clear, and compelling case for design theory. This newer approach partially explains why the intelligent design movement has endured intense scrutiny yet continued to gain support in the worldwide intellectual community.
Scientific and logical evidences that support the influence of an aware designer are the only bullets in the intelligent design movement’s gun. Arguing only through logic and science, the intelligent design movement forces evolutionists to argue their case based only on provable, observable facts – and to admit the assumptions and gaps inherent to a naturalistic view.

There is much talk in the news lately about the formation of a Palestinian state. It has become a major goal of President Bush. I believe that he is making the worst mistake of his Presidency. Biblically the West Bank, as it is called today is part of the land that Almighty God covenanted with Abraham to give his descendants through Isaac. Even more important is the fact that one of the reasons Jesus Christ is coming back at Armageddon is to destroy the people trying to steal the land of Israel away from Him and Israel. Although the Golan Heights are included in that Covenant, I want to focus on the area of the West Bank because that is the area the whole world is trying to make an independent Palestinian state.

A crucial element of this debate for the Bible believing Christian is that the West Bank as it is known today is referred to in Scripture as “Judea” and “Samaria” or “the mountains of Israel”. In 1999, the magazine “Christians for Israel” published an article documenting this entitled, “The Mountains of Israel”, by Karel van Oordt and Pee Koelewijn. There is also a book entitled, “The Mountains of Israel” by Norma Archbold that refers to this.

According to scripture, from the time when Lot and Abraham separated until after God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham lived on the plain of Mamre, which is present day Hebron in the West Bank. The events of Genesis 15 of the cutting of the covenant and the giving of the land occurred at that very place. In these scriptures we see the elements of the ancient Middle Eastern covenant. In Genesis 15:9, the animals are chosen, in verse 10 they are divided and laind against one another and in verses 17 and 18 the participants pass through the divided animals. The purpose for this according to Unger’s Bible Dictionary was to confirm the covenant, “by slaughtering and cutting the victim into halves, between which the parties passed, to intimate that if either of them broke the covenant it would fare with him as with the slain and divided beast.” The element not mentioned in the Genesis passage but most definitely took place at the time of the oath in Ezekiel 47:14 (NIV) where God, “swore with an uplifted hand”, to give the land to Israel. We get that impression from Jeremiah 34:14, which says the LORD will punish those, “which have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in twain, and passed between the parts thereof.” The picture we see when all these elements are included is when the LORD was passing through those pieces, He was swearing with an uplifted hand He was going to give Israel the land.

According to Isaiah 62:4, God is married to Israel and the land. The New American Standard Version says, “It well no longer be said to you “”Forsaken”" Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “”Desolate”"; But you will be called, “”My delight is in her,”" and your land, “”Married.”" It is no wonder then that the first three verses of Ezekiel 36, which deals with the mountains of Israel, i.e. the West Bank, are laced with a very stern warning from God in the spirit of a jealous husband. Ezekiel 36:5 says the LORD is speaking, “in the fire of my jealouslyagainst the rest of the nationswho appropriated my land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and scorn of soul.” The LORD God in Jeremiah 12:14 (NIV) calls those nations “wicked neighbors” who would “seize the inheritance I gave my people Israel.” View full article »

Thoughtful scientists ponder questions such as these and arrive at their hypotheses and then experiment to prove or disprove those hypotheses. Therefore I am calling on all evolutionists to ponder these points of fact and offer us some answers.Care to tackle this experiment?

Here is a most interesting problem. How does something come from nothing?
Something cannot come from nothing. But something is. Thus, something always has been. That “Something” that always has been is not “matter” (as demonstrated by the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which implies that matter is not eternal).
How can something non-living produce a living creature? Centuries ago scientists demonstrated that the theory of “spontaneous generation,” i.e., life bursting into existence on its own, is without supporting evidence. Francesco Redi (1626-97) and Louis Pasteur (1822-95), through careful experimentation debunked the notion that life can generate itself.
How did a highly organized, fully integrated body with cooperating parts (and all cells are highly organized; see Jackson, 2000, 6-14) develop from a mass of mere matter?
Rudolf Virchow (1821-1902), a German pathologist, popularized the “cell theory,” namely that “every cell originates from another cell like it.”

train2Today as I was coming down the hill into town, I almost ran into the side of a car turning left. I stopped to ask the lady who was driving the other car why she turned directly in front of me. Her response led me to this subject. She said she thought I had a stop sign so she immediately turned, assuming I would be stopping and not continue down the hill.

From her vantage point she saw the back side of a railroad crossing sign and thought it was a stop sign. From the placement of the sign at the corner of the street where she was turning left, she easily mistook the railroad crossing sign for a stop sign. Although the two signs do not look alike, in a spur of the moment, instant decision, I can see how she made the mistake of assuming it was a stop sign. That being said she did ignore the other rules of safe driving by not making sure the approaching vehicle actually stopped before attempting to turn in front of it. Had she waited patiently, she would have seen my vehicle was not going to stop and the near miss we had would have been avoided altogether.

I was thankful that my van did not have anti-lock brakes, for if it had, I doubt I would have been able to stop quickly enough to avoid hitting the rear of the turning car. As it turned out I missed hitting her completely.

It really was interesting that the sign this lady mistook for a stop sign was actuallyrr crossing signs a railroad crossing sign, indicating a railroad crossing where you better STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN for an oncoming train. If you get hit by a train it is not likely you will escape serious injury. You may even face death.

How many actually take the time to stop, look, and listen? I mean today with the red flashing lights at most railroad crossings, we cross the tracks without hardly a look to one side let alone both sides. Remember when we were young and our mothers would tell us to look both ways before crossing the street? Do you still do that today with those crossing lights flashing on the city street corners? Have we taken the signs for granted? Are we too much in a hurry to actually take time to stop, look, and listen?

How many times have we made snap decisions that have come back to cause us harm? How many times can you recall mistaking a sign to mean one thing when in reality it meant something entirely different? Have you, like me, ever had one of those times when you totally misunderstood something someone was trying to say?

It is not hard to misinterpret signs, and intent of others when we are not fully cognizant of our surroundings. We see but we do not comprehend, we hear but do not fully listen to the intent and meaning behind what we hear and we are too busy or too stressed to relax enough to respond with other than a knee-jerk reaction. We do not take the time to fully listen before we respond. View full article »

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Propagandists

1. GLITTERING GENERALITIES

The IPA used this term to describe virtuous words that mean different things to different people, but are used in such a general way that you can project your own meaning into the speaker’s words. So when people talk about freedom, strength, Democracy, or patriotism, you are likely to assume they think of those words the same way you do.

2. NAME CALLING

“Name calling” is a technique where someone uses words to link a person or proposal to a negative or emotionally charged symbol. The idea is to get you to reject the person due to the association with the symbol rather than actual evidence, which may or may not be there.

3. TRANSFER

There are institutions and objects that you have positive associations with, so politicians try to appear with symbols of those institutions in the hopes that you will transfer your positive associations onto them.

4. TESTIMONIAL
The IPA pointed out that sometimes
citing a qualified source is a good way to emphasize a legitimate idea. But you should consider whether or not the source being cited is really qualified to make judgments about a particular issue.5. PLAIN FOLKS

The “Plain Folks” technique is at work whenever a speaker promotes the idea that he or she is “of the people,” just an Average Joe despite the fact that he or she may go home to a mansion at the end of the day.

6. CARD STACKING

“Stacking the deck” is a gimmick used by magicians where a deck of cards appears to be randomly shuffled but is in fact arranged in a specific way. The IPA borrowed the term to describe a technique where only one side of a topic is favored, or another side is ignored or played down.

7. BANDWAGON

The idea behind the Bandwagon technique is that, since everyone else is doing it, so too should you.
